To create an exhibiti on space show-casing an installati on for the lack of housing for immigrant children in the U.S. Mexico border. The center will provide visitors with a restaurant fea-turing Central American cuisine. The restaurants proceeds will fund the housing project for children of the border. In additi on, Frontera Center will house a retail space containing authenti c Central American treasures that will also help fund the housing project.

problem statement:
BorderLinks is a nonprofi t educati on-al organizati on in Tucson that focuses on cross-border relati onship building opportuniti es, issues of immigrati on children, community formati on and development, and social justi ce in the borderlands between Mexico, the U.S.
This rise in numbers has caused the Department of Homeland Security to declare a crisis. The thousands of immigrant children are living in inhumane detenti on faciliti es for an indeterminate amount of ti me, caus-ing detrimental short and long term problems.
Through dynamic educati onal experiences, BorderLinks connects divided communiti es, raises awareness on the impact of border and children immigrati on policies, and inspires acti on for social transformati on. BorderLinks envisions a world where people within and across social borders, value and celebrate diff erences, and build healthy and just communiti es where everyone has equal op-portunity for a full and dignifi ed life.

ABout the solution:
Thousand of immigrant chil-dren are living in inhumane detention facilities for an in-determinate number of time, causing detrimental short and long term problems. The need for short term housing for these immigrant children, has risen the idea of a solu-tion consisting of a modular housing system which would replace the current prison like spaces. I therefore proposes to create an exhibition space showcasing an installation for the lack of housing for immi-grant children. The modular pods, they will be featured in the exhibition space in order to illustrate the solution for the lack of housing. The idea is that these modular pods could be shipped to any location and essembled on site, as a kit of parts.

The design is inspired by the long journey immigrant children have to endure when crossing the U.S. Mexico border. By drawing inspiration from the desert we celebrate nature and bring it to Frontera’s Center interiors in a contemporary form.

The exhibition space is located on the 12th floor of the general consulate. The exhibition illus-trates the Nertherlands Delta Works Project pumping sytem. The program required an exhi-bition area to showcase the non govermental organization purpose in the consulate. The space was modeled to excite the senses, and have the visiter feel as if they were in the middle of a thunderstorm.Theatrical lighting accents the wa-ter, and the wooden structure. The space is elevated 12 inches off the ground to show the below ground pumping system.
