Song of the Day Jesus Christ is Risen Today ELW 365

Nicene Creed

Leader: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayers of the People

Leader: Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, and for all people according to their needs.

Each petition of the prayers ends with these words: Leader: Lord in your mercy, People: hear our prayer. Leader: Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy; through Jesus Christ, our Savior. People: Amen.

Sharing of the Peace

Leader: Christ’s peace be with you, Christ’s peace within you, Christ’s peace behind you, Christ’s peace before you, Christ’s peace beside you, Christ’s peace to win you, Christ’s peace to comfort and restore you. Christ’s peace be with you, People: And also with you. Leader: Let us greet each other with signs of the peace of Christ.

Leader: Christ is risen! People: He is risen indeed!

Leader: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them to the Lord.

Leader: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give our thanks and praise.

The Preface Leader: Holy Mystery that is Love and Peace,

you are beyond complete knowledge, above perfect description. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; Source of Life, Living Word, and Bond of Love, you are creative and self-giving, generously moving in all the near and distant corners of the universe. Nothing exists that does not find its source in you.

Through fear-filled days and aching nights

when the powers of death have done their worst, your love has never deserted us.

Even when we turn away from you, you are with us;

your presence never fails us, your gifts of hope and new life transform us.

We praise you for Jesus Christ, risen to life, eternal as your love. With the women at the tomb, we raise the strain of gladness. Leader: Hallelujah! Life is stronger than death! The day of resurrection has come, scattering fear and gloom. And so we rejoice with all your people of every time and place, and with angels and archangels, to proclaim the glory of your name:

Sanctus

Leader: It is Jesus, God incarnate, the Risen Christ, who joins us together as a community of broken but hopeful believers:

loving what he loved living what he taught, and striving to be his faithful servants in our time and place.

Leader: In this meal we remember Jesus, his promises, and the price he paid for who he was, what he said, and what he did. On the night before Jesus died, he took a loaf of bread, gave thanks, broke it, and said, “Take and eat, whenever you do this, remember me.” After supper, Jesus took the cup, and poured, saying, “This is the new covenant, remember me.” We do remember. We remember his life of love, his friendship, his teaching, his dying, and his rising to life again. In sharing this meal, we live out the mystery of our faith: People: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. Leader: Holy Mystery, God the Spirit, we call on you to transform these familiar things,

as you continually transform the world around us. Bless this bread and this cup, the wheat and the grape, the farmer and the harvest, the seed and the sower. So that in the sharing of these simple elements in community, we may taste and see your goodness.

Leader: Through Christ, in Christ, and with Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory is yours, God most holy,

now and forever. Amen.

The Lord’ s Prayer

Leader: Lord, remember us in your kingdom, and teach us to pray; All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Breaking the Bread, Pouring the Cup

Leader: The body of Christ. All: The bread of life.

Leader: The lifeblood of Christ. All: The cup of blessing.

Leader: These are the gifts of God for the people of God. Come to the table. The gifts of God are… All: FREE!

What’ s Happening A BIG THANK YOU GOES TO OUR PALM SUNDAY DECORATORS PAULA ALM AND DONNA ROBSON! Thank you for your creativity and artistry in bringing the Sanctuary to life! We need to especially be thankful to our very own Palm Tree lumberjack, Alan Chelman. With Alan's diligence and up-keep of this palm tree in our garden, we keep getting beautiful palm branches the last several years. Thank you! Jeanette Kuneli Women’s Bible Study has begun a new study! We are reading the book of Acts using the Augsburg Fortress Books of Faith study by Ray Pickett. “The Holy Spirit is clearly at work in Acts, pouring out on people from many nations on the day of Pentecost, giving Jesus’ disciples the power to speak boldly, gathering early believers together for worship, and sending out Peter and Paul as missionaries. In this course, participants will examine the beginnings of the church and will find meaningful connections between the early church and the church today.” Please join us every Tuesday night from 7-8:30pm for this 8 week study. Location will be changing each week so please contact Adrianne Jurgenson ([email protected] or 925-960-0738) for exact location. We look forward to seeing you! A celebration of immigration to America will be held on April 29. Some of us have been here for many generations, and others arrived on our shores recently. The event, "Making My Way to the USA," will be held at the Muslim Community Center in Pleasanton. The time is 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. In small groups, attendees will be invited to tell their families’ immigration stories. In the second part of the event, there will be snacks and information tables set up. Several genealogy experts from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will also be available to help people learn more about their family history if they choose to do so. Audrey Sato If you have questions, comments or something to share with the congregation, please submit your ideas, announcements or articles for the weekly bulletin by Wednesday for inclusion in that Sunday’s bulletin. You can call the church Office at 447-8840, or submit your ideas, questions and comments via email to [email protected]
