The Farm School is located on a 40-acre patch of wooded land just east of Idaho Falls. This land

already includes a working farm, equipment barns and a residential house that is perfect for conversion into a school

building. It is there that children from preschool through eighth grade and their families will have the opportunity to have

hands-on experience with agriculture and nature in a warm, learning environment. All of this will be done while still oering

a traditional and challenging academic curriculum. Students will be immersed in an environment that is abundant with farm

life and nature, giving them a chance to explore and learn in both an indoor and outdoor setting.

The GrowingProjectIn recent decades, our world has developed a misunderstanding of basic work principles where our food comes from and how to appreciate the land and the environment that surrounds us. Maria Montessori once said, Within the child lies the fate of the future. With this in mind, Lighthouse Montessori has developed The Farm School Project. The Lighthouse school's goal is to build a Farm School that provides activities and learning opportunities that are now absent from most children's lives.

    The Program

  • Potential. You see it,and so do we.Our mission is to provide education based on truth and correct principles in an environment of peace and security. We follow the methods of Dr. Maria Montessori. Our method is based on respect for the individual child and his/her individual timetable for growth and development. We seek to build not only good mathematicians, proficient linguists, profound scientists or brilliant literary lights, but also honest men [and women] with virtue, temperance and brotherly love.*

The Purpose of a Montessori Education

Dr. Maria Montessori believed that no human being is educated by another person; they must do it themselves, or it will never be done. Truly educated individuals continue learning long after the hours spent in the classroom because they are motivated from within by a love for knowledge. The goal of early childhood education should be to cultivate the natural desire to learn.

    Our Environment

More personal attention We provide a reliable source of education,

support, and training for families, which allows us to help develop a strong

academic foundation and a repertoire of life skills in each of our students.

We provide a peaceful, secure and prepared environment where children long to be.

We also help children discover their abilities, find their independence and

    develop their self-confidence.

  • How our children learn

Since children retain the ability to learn by absorbing until they are almost 7 years old, Dr. Montessori reasoned that they would flourish in a classroom wherein they could learn through exploration. Over 80 years of experience have proven her theory that young children can learn to read, write and calculate in the same natural way that they learn to walk and talk. In a Montessori classroom, the program invites children to progress at their own pace.

Teaching DierentlyOur teaching method is based on the young childs unique aptitude for learning, which Dr. Montessori identified as the absorbent mind. She frequently compared the young mind to a sponge, absorbing information from the environment. The process is particularly evident in the way in which a 2-year-old learns his/her native language. Children employ all of their senses to investigate their interesting surroundings with the guidance of our trained and certified Montessori experts.

See real growth We create and provide programs that will heighten a childs development through the processes of exploration and discovery with concrete materials, all while nurturing a natural curiosity and a love of learning.

Children learn to leadConsistent leadership opportunities foster a strong sense of self, a respect for others and an ability to work as part of a group. This awakens a love of learning, a passion for knowledge and a joy of creativity in each student.

    the future.
