Life Sciences Facility Scope of Work

•Once complete, Life Sciences will provide multiuse teaching and researchlabs, classrooms, and office space for life science research and academicpurposes The research portion will provide nearly 60 000 gross square feetpurposes. The research portion will provide nearly 60,000 gross square feet(gsf) of much-needed research lab space for biology programs. Theteaching portion will provide 40,000 gross square feet of academicclassroom and lab space for biology and wildlife degree programs.p gy g p g

•Within the approximately 100,000 gsf, offices will be constructed for faculty(principal investigators) with research labs in the building. Offices will alsobe provided for the biology and wildlife degree program such that thedepartment chair and administrative staff will be housed in Life Sciences;making them more accessible to the students they serve.

•Life Sciences will be constructed with the most current, energy efficient andsustainable materials available to a project in such a northern climate.

Life Sciences Facility Scope of Work

•The exterior will feature high insulation value cladding and translucent panels andglass windows will be held to a minimum and placed such to maximize safety, theview shed building aesthetics and to capture natural lightingview shed, building aesthetics, and to capture natural lighting.

•Teaching labs will feature moveable and fixed casework that will allow rooms to actas both classrooms and class labs, thus increasing the utilization of the space.Research labs will follow the national trend of being open and modular to adapt tochanging research needs. Lab support spaces will be created around the labs tohouse large equipment, fume hoods, freezers, and more.

•Additional utilities work will include construction of a utilidor for service piping, installation of sanitary and storm drainage, and installation of steam absorptionchiller units for a district cooling loop.

•A specialty lab may be created in the building to support research radiology with thepossible installation of two (2) Magnetic Resonance Imaging machines.
