Life in His StoryPart 11

John 8:46-59 (NIV)

46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe

me? 47 He who belongs to God hears what God

says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."

John 8:46-59 (NIV)

48 The Jews answered him, "Aren't we right in saying that you are a Samaritan and demon-

possessed?" 49 "I am not possessed by a demon," said

Jesus, "but I honor my Father and you dishonor me.

John 8:46-59 (NIV)

50 I am not seeking glory for myself; but there is one who seeks it, and he is the judge.

51 I tell you the truth, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death."

52 At this the Jews exclaimed, "Now we know that you are demon-possessed! Abraham died and so did the prophets, yet you say

that if anyone keeps your word, he will never taste death.

John 8:46-59 (NIV)

53 Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do

you think you are?" 54 Jesus replied, "If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me.

John 8:46-59 (NIV)

55 Though you do not know him, I know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I

do know him and keep his word. 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced at the

thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad."

57 "You are not yet fifty years old," the Jews said to him, "and you have seen Abraham!"

John 8:46-59 (NIV)

58 "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!"

59 At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the

temple grounds.

Ephesians 6:17 (NIV)

17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

1. Forever life.

1 Peter 1:3-4 (NIV)

3 What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master

Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we've been given a brand-new life and

have everything to live for, 4 including a future in heaven—and the future

starts now!

2. The hope of salvation.

1 Thessalonians 5:8 (NIV)

8 But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a

breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (NIV)

3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.

4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.

5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive

every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

3. The Word. (Sword of the Spirit)

Romans 12:2 (NIV)

2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the

renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his

good, pleasing and perfect will.

Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)

12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it

penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts

and attitudes of the heart.

1 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and

training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly

equipped for every good work.

1 Thessalonians 5:5-11 (NIV)

5 You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the

darkness. 6 So then, let us not be like others, who are

asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled.

1 Thessalonians 5:5-11 (NIV)

7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.

8 But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a

helmet.

1 Thessalonians 5:5-11 (NIV)

9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus

Christ. 10 He died for us so that, whether we are

awake or asleep, we may live together with him.

11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are

doing.
