LIBRARY UNDER THE NEW NORMAL

Libraries are among the institutions greatly affected by the post pandemic situation. There are a lot of questions about the future of libraries. One thing is certain though, libraries must adapt to the changes brought about by ECQ in order to be relevant and to survive.

The library scenarios under the new normal: redesigning spaces for the purpose of physical distan-cing, where tables and chairs are reduced to observe physical dis-tancing and to control the number of people staying inside the library at any given time. Computer units were also rearranged and plastic partitions were installed to allow for physical distancing.

Physical distancing among library staff will be practiced, hence staff shall be encouraged to take their snacks and lunch by themselves and avoid the usual “eating together and sharing experi-

ences” routine. Despite the situa-tion, the library has never stopped its services and continued to sup-port the information needs of ISU-CC community virtually. Keeping its patrons’ learning needs is the priority of the library. Thus, start-ing the quarantine, online refer-ence services and support have been provided. The library in-forms its patrons of new acquisi-tions, open and free access links through its social media account and those who have questions may ask the Librarian for assistance via chat.

Library virtual orientation

ISU-CC LIBRARIANS JOIN THE PLAI 2020 ONLINE NATIONAL CONGRESS

The Isabela State University-Cauayan Cam-pus conducted a virtual orientation October 2020.

The virtual library orientation is much need-ed at this time to acquaint the faculty members and students regarding the Library’s guide to the new normal most especially on the access and use of li-brary resources.

The librarians, attended the first ever online PLAI 2020 congress last 24-27 of November

2020. With the theme “Libraries as Catalysts in the new normal environment : Changes . Reforms. Transformation”, this event was free streamed via Zoom, Facebook live, and Youtube. The attendees learned on the roles of libraries and librarians as social catalysts and leaders of reforms, changes, and transformations for the new normal environment. Also they re-examine, re-think, and re-interpret the role of libraries and competencies needed of libraries as promoters of change in the new normal envi-ronment. They identified partner-ships, collaborations, and communi-ties to strengthen the potentials of librarians and libraries as social in-stitutions proactively involved in the social aspect of the new normal en-vironment. Lastly, showcase the best practices on innovations, changes, reforms and transfor-mations among libraries to adapt the new normal environment. All in all, the 4-day webinar was full of inter-esting information for all strands of learning.

cessed the internet with 36 users, and 99 books were

used under the class 300 (Education, Law, Social Sciences). Only

unpublished materials such as theses, feasibility studies, narrative

reports, and research materials with 11 books were used for their

research and study, followed by class 600 (Applied Sciences) )

with 63 books, and class 500 (Pure Sciences) respectively.

The library is campaigning for students to explore other

resources therein by acquiring more up-to-date materials such as

fiction books and textbooks. This would give the students to be-
