LIBQUEST ’19 - REPORT

LibQuest ’19 with the theme ‘Connect-Content-Collaborate’ was aimed at

connecting the content curated and served at the LRC with the user community and

further collaborate with them in order to understand their academic and research

needs and align the resources skilfully. Inculcating reading habits among the

Google generation and restructuring the learning resources keeping in mind

the pedagogical shift of digitalization is what the LRC is steadfast to implement.

This unique event,

segments of university students, research scholars, faculty and staff members. Throughout

LibQuest ’19 was inaugurated on September 23, 2019 at 10 AM by Dr. Rajesh

Naithani, Advisor to Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD),

Government of India.

In his addressal speech, Dr. Naithani spoke about

the adoption of various important steps taken by

the Government of India and how the MHRD is

focusing on quality of research so that Indian

institutions can be listed under top global ranking.

ICARE

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Karthick Sridhar, Vice-Chairman at

ICARE. In his address, Dr Karthick

stressed that based on the differences in

parameters, Indian education system

could not be compared under global

ranking system. As such, to keep globally

abreast, we need to re-design, re-structure

our system and focus on collaborative

research rather than individual research, Dr. Karthick Sridhar, Vice Chairman at

so that we can produce more and increase our citations. He also discussed how

librarians can play an important role in facilitating and managing research data and

help an institution in organizing and presenting

research data for participation in global ranking. Prof

R.K. Shevgaonkar, VC, Bennett University, in his

presidential address said that he doesn’t believe in

ranking system but want that scholars should

contribute the

best in

teaching and

research so

receives acknowledgment and global Prof. R.K. Shevgaonkar

acceptance. He appreciated the concept of LibQuest ’19, specially the theme, Connect-

Content-Collaborate, which seems to be a thoughtful initiative and the need of the

hour. Prof. Rajendra S Chauhan greeted the delegates on behalf of BU. Organizing

Secretary of LibQuest ’19, Dr. Sanjay Kataria introduced about the genesis of

LibQuest ’19 and the title of the seminar on “Role of Libraries in Ranking of the

Institutions”.

More than 100 Librarians from different parts of the country attended the seminar and

many speakers from national institute of repute shared

their experiences about various ranking and accreditation

agencies system including NAAC, NIRF, NBA, Times

Higher Education, QS, UGC/AICTE, BCI, MCI, etc.

and Director IT at NIFT Delhi delivered his talk on Role

of Libraries in Ranking

and accreditations of

Dr. Sanjay Kataria Higher Education

Institutions: Perspective and Plans.

According to him, Indian universities are not lacking

in terms of research and hard-work but they need to

redesign parameters that are analyzed for ranking of

institutions.

Professor MP Singh from BBAU Lucknow and Prof.

Gajendra Singh from Delhi University chaired the 1st

technical session in which following eminent scholars and

administrators shared their views.

Dr. Nabi Hasan, Librarian at

Dr. M.P. Singh IIT, Delhi spoke on the

“National Board of

Accreditation (NBA)

and Role of

Libraries.” He gave a

brief introduction

about NBA. He

informed that the inst Dr. Nabi Hasan

by NBA have good reputations in India.

Dr. Siva spoke about Medical Council of India and

its role in accreditation of medical institutions. He

Dr. S. Siva Chidambaram narrated that libraries do

not have direct involvement in ranking and but play a

significant role in enhancement of research activities and

accreditation.

Dr. Neeraj Kumar Singh, Dy. Librarian at Punjab

University, Chandigarh spoke about Times Higher

Education Ranking System and weightage to the Libraries.

According to him, some of the performance Dr. Neeraj Kr. Singh

indicators/parameters include teaching, research, publication citation, etc. where

libraries can play active role.

Mr. Kannan P, Deputy Librarian at Central

University of Punjab, Bhatinda presented his talk

on “Indian Research Information Networking

System”.

Mr. Kannan P in Centre Delhi delivered his

talk on Academic Ranking of World Universities

(ARWU) Shanghai Ranking Consultancy and weightage

to the Libraries. Dr. Neeraj Chaurasia

Dr. Sandeep Pathak, Dy. Librarian delivered a talk on

National Institute of Ranking Framework (NIRF) and

Weightage to the Libraries. He emphasized that good

ranking in NIRF leads to good funding and budgetary

allocation. He further elaborated that lot of weightage

Assoc Prof. at DLIS, DU underlined the

theme of the seminar and discussed on the

ways by which academic libraries can

facilitate research in the digital era. Dr. Dr. Ramesh C Gaur

Manish Bajpai, Librarian, RMNLU, Lucknow,

UP spoke on NAAC guidelines for libraries and

how librarians should prepare for accreditation.

The seminar concluded with a finishing remark

by Dr. Ramesh Gaur, Director Library &

Information, IGNCA and the chief guest of

valedictory session. Chief Guest of

valedictory session was Prof. J.P. Gupta,

Founder Member Secretary of AICTE, Former

Prof. J.P. Gupta Chancellor Lingayat’s University & Founder

Vice-Chancellor of Jaypee Institute of

Information Technology. He emphasized

the importance of librarians to be far-

sighted and well acquainted with

publishing platforms and personal skills

like communication and collaboration,

which can benefit their institutes and Dr. S.D. Vyas

facilitate research.

Day 1 activity at 6 pm an was designed for

Freshmen across all the schools. A quiz

game was designed with 60% questions

related to Library (resource & service

usage) website, 30% on BU and 10%

general knowledge questions. Through an

innovative Pustak Pitthu game, students

combining fun & learning together.

Day 2: An

Workshop on

“How to Publish your research impactfully” was organized

for research

scholars and

faculties across

all the schools. Dr. Nidhi Sinha

Ms. Sangeeta Menon, Publishing

Relationship Manager at Emerald

Publishing shared the facts & figure by

which, about 2,25,000 researchers join research community every year but around

45% get rejected. The author workshop was an eyeopener for budding researchers

and a quick brush-up for the ones already into the field.

Ms. Menon also explained how to select the journals for publishing research papers

and discussed about important points which scholar should keep in mind

while preparing the

manuscript.

very interactive and

ended with a vote of

thanks.

The evening followed

with a quiz round and a

creative Pictionary

Workshop on “How to Publish your Research Impactfully” game, specially

designed for the students of Times School

of Media and School of Management. The

LRC designed customized quiz & games

activities for every departments. Students

win prizes. All activities were designed to

Day-3 embarked upon the journey during the lunch time with quiz & games for the

faculty members and scholars.

All participants played the quiz based

on resources and services provided by

the LRC in Mentimeter software

plugged in through their smartphones.

It was fun watching scores for each

question on screen and evoked

adrenaline rush. The same spirit

continued during Pustak Pitthu game too

where every participant was to build a

Pustak tower or Pitthu with books of their

choice that itself could reveal a story.

A workshop on “Access to Legal

Information” for School of Law

was organized. Dr. Sanjay Kataria

welcomed the invited speaker Mr.

NK Khare, Librarian, the Supreme

Court Judges’ Library. Experts

from legal research database firms,

such as Manupatra, Hein,

workshop was to understand the functioning of research systems and how to access

LibQuest ’19 was a grand success

and could fulfil its aim at

connecting the BU Fraternity with

the library resources. It could bring

the Google generation to inculcate

interest in academic libraries.

Day 4 created the spark with fun

engagements through quiz among

the non-teaching staff at BU, making Moment of glee & excitement while playing

the event all-inclusive where the

staff were again, made to participate in games revolving around the theme of the whole

LibQuest ’19.

At noon, participants were seen

grasping knowledge through, yet

another workshop organized on

“Research Ethics and Plagiarism” for

Faculty and Research Scholars.

On Day 5, a book exhibition was organized for the entire BU fraternity on for

strengthening library collection. The gathering saw a culmination of a large number of

students, faculty and staff apart from the publishers and distributors.

My heartfelt gratitude towards the authorities of the university including Hon’ble

Chancellor, Mr. Vineet Jain Ji, Vice-Chancellor, Prof R.K Shevgaonkar, Ms. Revati

Jain and President of the University Mr. Sachin Jain for keeping faith on me and

extending all possible support to LibQuest ’19 from its beginning till completion.

I am thankful to the entire BU family including Deans of Schools, Directors, HODs,
