MANILA, Philippines – Lufthansa TechnikPhilippines (LTP) inaugurated on Friday a$30-million hangar capable of servicing theAirbus A380, the world's largest commercialpassenger jet.

The A380 is a double-decked, wide-body,four-engine airliner manufactured by theEuropean corporation Airbus. The newhangar at NAIA measures 180 x 140meters, with a height of 45 meters, makingit one of the largest industrial buildings inPhilippines.

The hangar provides enough overheadclearance (27.5 meters) to lift the aircraft toany height required for maintenance, evenfor the huge tailfin of the A380, which ismore than 24 meters tall. Covering morethan 25.000 square meters, the hangar caneasily accommodate two A380s, threeBoeing 747s or a combination of both typesat the same time.

The opening for business of the new A380 maintenance hangar of LTP is amilestone in Philippine aviation history. "There are only four locations worldwidewhere the A380 can be maintained and the Philippines hopes to join this rank,"Lufthansa Technik Philippines said in a statement.

The facilities located at the MacroAsia Special Economic Zone in Villamor AirBase, Pasay City is a German-Filipino joint venture between Lufthansa TechnikAG and MacroAsia, an aviation arm of Lucio Tan's group. The new multi millioninvestments will expand LTP’s capacity that will create more jobs and helpcontribute to nation-building.

"The new $30 million hangar indicates the continuing commitment of LufthansaTechnik Philippines to build up its investment in the Philippines and createhundreds of high-tech, high-skill jobs for Filipinos," the company said.
