Liberty Hill Connection July 2019—Volume 29 Issue 7 Camp in a Van 2019 was a resounding success! The four counselors (Caroline, Grace, Marta and Noah) kept the campers very busy with Bible lessons, crafts, and games. A special shout-out to our two junior counselors—Jacob Donahue and Josh Rawl. They set up supplies and equipment each morning and helped with the younger campers throughout the day. They also went out in the water for some extra backup to our certified lifeguard. The success of Camp in a Van depends on the financial support and assistance from many people. It is truly a church-wide effort. Some of our church members and friends went far above and beyond the call of duty. Special thanks to Sam and Susan Caldwell (providing lodging directly across the street from Lakeside and dinner for the counselors); Doug and Nancy McDonald, Scott and Wanda Ghent, Jerry and Trish Flynn (picking up food, setting up snacks and lunches, cleaning the kitchen, taking off the trash, providing dinner for the counselors, etc); and George Harkins, Lloyd Douglas, and Doyle and Linda Lewis for working so hard to have the Lakeside grounds ready for camp as well as the play areas. Jerry Flynn provided the new layer of mulch for the playground. We also thank Elaine Maree and her neighbor Estelle Stinnett, Lisa Knight and Carol Mecksroth for volunteering one of the camp days. Last but not least I offer a big shout-out to Peggy Sneed for helping with all the administrative tasks associated with camp. It is a huge undertaking as preparations begin months in advance. Our children's spiritual growth is of the most importance and our campers have been physically and emotionally were uplifted each day as well. We know they will take what they have learned forward. Our theme was Peace Works and to everyone involved...you demonstrated what that means with your actions. Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called Children of God. Matthews 5:9. July 2019—Volume 29 Issue 7

Camp in a Van 2019 was a resounding success! The four

counselors (Caroline, Grace, Marta and Noah) kept the

campers very busy with Bible lessons, crafts, and games. A

special shout-out to our two junior counselors—Jacob

Donahue and Josh Rawl. They set up supplies and

equipment each morning and helped with the younger

campers throughout the day. They also went out in the water for some extra backup to

our certified lifeguard.

The success of Camp in a Van depends on the financial support and assistance from many

people. It is truly a church-wide effort. Some of our church members and friends went far

above and beyond the call of duty. Special thanks to Sam and Susan Caldwell (providing

lodging directly across the street from Lakeside and dinner for the counselors); Doug and

Nancy McDonald, Scott and Wanda Ghent, Jerry and Trish Flynn (picking up food, setting

up snacks and lunches, cleaning the kitchen, taking off the trash, providing dinner for

the counselors, etc); and George Harkins, Lloyd Douglas, and Doyle and Linda Lewis for

working so hard to have the Lakeside grounds ready for camp as well as the play

areas. Jerry Flynn provided the new layer of mulch for the playground. We also thank

Elaine Maree and her neighbor Estelle Stinnett, Lisa Knight and Carol Mecksroth for

volunteering one of the camp days. Last but not least I offer a big shout-out to Peggy

Sneed for helping with all the administrative tasks associated with camp. It is a huge

undertaking as preparations begin months in advance.

Our children's spiritual growth is of the most importance and our campers have been

physically and emotionally were uplifted each day as well. We know they will take what

they have learned forward.

Our theme was Peace Works and to everyone involved...you demonstrated what that

means with your actions.

Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called Children of God. Matthews 5:9.

From the desk of the pastor,

Dear Friends,

I am so amazed at the reception I have received since moving here on June 15. I look forward to getting to know everyone here and being there for those in need. Please let me know if I can be of assistance to you. The Lakeside Service is an opportunity for me to meet others

who have homes along the lake. Our theme throughout the summer will be God’s Plans for People in Genesis.

Camp in a Van, our joint ministry with Bethelwoods, was an inspirational opportunity for the children and youth who gathered daily during the week of June 16-21. There were 4 counselors from Bethelwoods and some local junior assistants. I attended the cook out on Sunday, and lunch on Thursday and Friday. My first time at Bethelwoods occurred during the summer of 1982. I had just graduated from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia. I did not have a call to a church. I looked for an opportunity to serve some place during the summer. Someone suggested applying to be a counselor at Camp Bethelwoods. I applied and was accepted.

My examination by Providence Presbytery on June 23, went very well. I am an official member of Providence Presbytery. The next step for me to be your official pastor is for my Installation Service to take place here in Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church on July 28, at 4:00p.m. The Installation Commission was approved by the Presbytery.

My son, Jonathan, and I have a tradition in July. We attend Comic Con Conference in San Diego, California. We have done this for the past eight years. We will leave on July 15, and return on July 22. This year will be the 50th Anniversary of Comic Con in San Diego. We look forward to spending this time together. Blessings to All, Garland
