May the 4th

On Saturday, May 4 I took my two oldest kids--Josh and Kayla--to a Star Wars-themed “May the

Fourth” event at the Veterans Memorial Library. I wrote about the experience below. 

There was a strong tremor in the force today at the Veteran’s Memorial Library in Mount Pleasant

where Star Wars fans of all ages gathered together to celebrate “May the fourth,” the unofficial Star

Wars holiday. This was held in combination with another annual event called called “Free Comics Day.” 

On the first floor Children’s level, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, and a Stormtrooper were on hand to pose

for pictures. In the Annex, the kids who had come dressed as their favorite Star Wars characters

competed in a costume contest. A Green Lantern graphic novel was given to the most creative costume,

and the grand prize was free movie tickets and refreshments Celebration Cinemas.

In the third floor Adult section, attendees stood in line to collect their free comic book. There were also

other special guests such as a graphic artist and someone who owned a large collection of vintage comic

books.

A talk by someone who had been involved in the making of the first two Star Wars movies was

scheduled to speak, but he didn’t make it. 

All in all, it was a great way to spend May 4th.
