Term 2, Issue 5 TERM CALENDAR OUR ONLINE CANTEEN primarystudents @qbc.wa.edu.au

Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Friends of the College,

It has been a pleasure acting as Principal for the past few weeks and we welcome back Mrs Malzer from her Long Service Leave. I also trust that everyone has had a nice break from school and are ready for the term ahead.

On the first day of school, 140 students commenced the challenge of running a Marathon distance prior to the Cross Country Championships!! Not only is the challenge going to assist in the health and fitness of the students but also help in raising funds through the ‘adidas School Fun Run’.

The Marathon Challenge reminds us of the following in our lives.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7

A marathon requires a lot of preparation, patience and hard work. In order for someone to run in a marathon, he or she needs to get their body in shape. They need to be prepared in order to win the race. By training their bodies and minds they will be able to succeed even when they become tired during the race.

When someone who is not prepared tries to run in a marathon, most likely they will quit or give up because their body and mind is not able to finish the race. By quitting or giving up, they won’t receive the prize that a winner or a finisher would receive after crossing the finish line.

When we ask Jesus to come into our hearts, we begin preparing for our race as a Christian. During our life in Christ, we will experience some bad times and some good times. Like a marathon runner, we will need to be in spiritual shape to endure those bad times. By being in God’s Word, denying ourselves the things we “feel” like doing, and following Him, we will prepare our lives for the hard work that lies ahead of us. But as the Apostle Paul tells us there is a great prize that awaits every Christian who finishes this race.

We need to run the race of faith to win!

to read for at least 10 minutes every day during the month of May.

back of Book Fair Invitation) the number of minutes spent reading each day in May. Then from June 1-15,

tally up the total minutes spent reading in May and go online to www.scholastic.com.au/nfrm to enter the

competition and for a chance to win some great prizes –20 students from each state and Territory will win

$100 worth of book vouchers!

Ask your parent to sign your reading log. Keep it handy, if you’re a winner, you will need to send the log into

Scholastic. Winners will be announced in July!

Happy Reading!

Back to Sport After 2 days of competition, awesome performances and even greater shows of sportsmanship, the QBC Primary Athletics Championships has drawn to a close.

Congratulations to all the participants for running fast, jumping far and high, and throwing far.

Thank you to all the parents who assisted at each Championship Day - being officials, raking, measuring, staking, setting up and packing away!! Without your assistance, neither day would have run as smoothly as they did.

The results have been entered and finalised.

Congratulations to Aylward for receiving the most points!

Congratulations also to the following students who were recognised as the Year Group Athletics Champions and Runner-ups based on therir performances in each event.

Next term, we will be holding the adidas School Fun-Run as a major fundraising event this year.

The fundraising initiative will be held from 26th April 2016 culminating in the QBC Cross Coun-try Championships on the 25th May 2016.

During the weeks prior to the Championships, students have been set the challenge of com-pleting a half-marathon or marathon distance.

At each lunch time from 12:40pm - 1:00pm students may complete a course on school grounds, accumulating kilometers each day in an attempt to complete 21km or 42km prior to the Cross Country Championships.

Students have received a log book to record their efforts at school and at home.

Log books need to be returned to school on Monday 23rd May to be able to prepare Certificates.

On the 25th April, the Primary School Choir and Primary School Represent-

atives attended the ANZAC Day Dawn Service at Quinn’s Rocks Sports Club.

They braved the early rise and sprinkle of rain to honour those who defend

our freedom.

The school continued to commemorate the ANZAC’s on the first day of

term, holding our own ANZAC Service in the Primary Auditorium. This was

led by the School Representatives and was attended by the entire Primary

School. There was great respect shown throughout the service by the Stu-

dents which I believe would have honoured our Armed Forces.

School Community

We’re holding the adidas School Fun-Run as a major fundraising event this year! The event is being held from 26th

April 2016 to 23rd May 2016 as students attempt to run the distance of a Half or Full Marathon! This is a

sponsorship based fundraiser, and we’re looking to raise $15,000, so all help is appreciated!

The School Fun-Run promotes healthy and active lifestyles to our students in a fun and engaging way! It’s all

about participation and we’re organising a great day for our school community coinciding with the Cross Country

Championships on 25th May 2016!!. Family support is key to our fundraising success and we encourage all

students to get involved.

Keep your eyes peeled for the sponsorship forms which will be sent home with you child. Students who raise just

$10 or more will receive a reward for effort.

Students should sign up for a Student Profile Page at schoolfunrun.com.au. They’ll be able to do online

fundraising and track their progress….

Plus they can win a Samsung Galaxy just for signing up!

The adidas School Fun-Run is a healthy fundraiser that ensures all schools have a viable alternative to junk food

fundraising. The event sends the right message to students about having fun while getting involved and being

active.

As of Wednesday morning QBC Primary families have raised a huge $5363.16. We are now over a third of the way to our $15,000 target. Congratulations to Kian Gouws from Kindy 3 for winning a Samsung Galaxy Tablet this week. Thank you Families for all your support.

We ask, for safety reasons, that students not use the grounds of other schools as a

shortcut or thoroughfare when walking to and from school.

Thank you for your patience in using our car park.

The large number of students at the three colleges and the lack of available parking spaces has unfortunately resulted in severely restricted traffic flow at peak times. Please assist us by:

Following the one-way arrows (see above).

Not parking on the footpath.

Not driving over the footpath. (Parking on or driving over footpaths is illegal and you may be fined. It also exacerbates the traffic problems and increases the risks to pedestrians.

Not using Peter Moyes Anglican Community School’s car park.

Please be courteous to other drivers.

We encourage everyone, where possible, to play their part in improving traffic flow around the schools.
