LFIGP LIFE APRIL 2017
EARTH DAY By : Alexandra
Earth Day began on April 22, 1970 and has been an important day ever since. It's a day to reflect on our
planet, our environment and what we can do to help keep them healthy. You can start with things like
reusing recycled items. You can learn about your local areas recycling program. Help your parents sort
the recycling and encourage them to recycle. This is one of those times where the kids may be teaching
the parents. You can do the same thing at school, clubs, home and anywhere else you spend time.
What is Earth Hour? Earth hour was set up to raise awareness on climate change; it encourages
households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, at the same time on the
same day; symbolizing universal awareness, support and the need to take action on environmental issues.
The Earth Hour event was created by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature). The first event took place in
2007 in Sydney, Australia. It is a global event that takes place in March each year.
How can you help save our environment?

Atlantis Dolphins By: Mayia
If you want to see dolphins you can go to Dolphin Bay in Atlantis.
You can play with them for 30 minutes. You can throw a ball or a
ring and dance with them! You can even kiss them!
Between each session with humans the dolphin has 30 minutes to
relax and play. There are 8 dolphins and 1 baby dolphin. One of the
dolphins name is Blade.
The people who take care of the dolphins give the dolphins’ fish,
ice and shrimp. They put the dolphin on its back and we can see
their tummy. They let them breathe for 20 seconds so the dolphins
are not stressed. We should not touch their eyes or mouths. They
seem to be happy in Atlantis.
It is so great you should go with your family!!!
Below is a picture of me with one of the dolphins.

Marvel Super Heroes and dinosaurs.
I would suggest checking out this cool spot on the weekend!

RIDDLES
Superheroes By: Mohamed
In modern popular fiction, a superhero is a type of heroic
character who has supernatural or superhuman powers. They are
normally found fighting crime, protecting the public, and
usually battling super villains. A female superhero is sometimes
called a superheroine although the word superhero is
commonly used for females also.
Superhero and superheroine are fiction and normally centered
on characters. It started in the 1930s in American comic books
and is also known as “superhero fiction”. Often at least one of
these super villains will be the superhero's archenemy. Some
superheroes are Iron Man, Captain America, Superman, Wonder
Woman, Batman, Spider-Man and the Hulk.
Facts about Turtles By: Thomas
Turtles are reptiles.
Turtles have a hard shell that protects them like a shield;
this upper shell is called a ‘carapace’.
Turtles also have a lower shell called a ‘plastron’.
Many turtle species (not all) can hide their heads inside
their shells when attacked by predators.
Turtles have existed for around 215 million years and
like other reptiles, turtles are cold blooded.
The largest turtle is the leatherback sea turtle; it can
weigh over 900 kg!
In some species of turtle the temperature determines if
the egg will develop into a male or female. Lower
temperatures lead to a male while higher temperatures
lead to a female.
Some turtles lay eggs in the sand and leave them to hatch
on their own. The young turtles make their way to the
top of the sand and scramble to the water while trying to
avoid predators.
Animals in Maasai Mara By: Lyse
The Maasai Mara National Reserve is a large game reserve in
Narok county in Kenya. It is named in honor of the Maasai
people who were the ancestral inhabitants of the area. Mara
stands for the area when looked at from afar which consist of
circles of trees, scrub, savanna, and cloud shadows that mark the
area.
It is famous for Maasai lions, African leopards and Tanzanian
cheetahs. Each year there is an annual migration of zebra,
Thomson's gazelle, and wildebeest to and from the Serengeti.
This migration happens from July to October and is known as the
Great Migration.
The "Big Five" is a name for a group of animals. “The Big Five”
consists of lions, leopards, African elephants, cape buffalo, and
black rhinoceros which are found in the Maasai Mara.
Hippopotami and crocodiles are found in large groups in the
Mara and Talek rivers. Leopards, hyenas, cheetahs, jackals, and
bat-eared foxes can also be found in the reserve.

An inventor By: Ewan Periodic Table By: Ken The Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev published the first table
in 1869. He developed his table to illustrate periodic trends in
the properties of elements.
The Periodic Table is a way of listing the elements. Elements are
listed in the table by the structure of their atoms. This includes
how many protons they have as well as how many electrons they
have in their outer shell.
From left to right and top to bottom, the elements are listed in
the order of their atomic number, which is the number of protons
in each atom. It is called "periodic" because elements are lined
up in cycles or periods.
Lamborghinis By: Ange
Ferruccio Elio Arturo Lamborghini was
born on April 28, 1916 and died on
February 20, 1993. He was an Italian
industrialist. His parents were both
grape farmers from Emilia-Romagna.
He was very interested in mechanics which led him to enter the
business of tractor manufacturing in 1948, when he founded
Lamborghini Trattori. This became an important manufacturer of
agricultural equipment in Italy.
In 1959, he opened an oil heater factory, Lamborghini Bruciatori.
Later he entered the business of producing air conditioning
equipment. In 1963, he most famously created Automobili
Lamborghini, a maker of high-end sports cars in Sant'Agata
Bolognese. Lamborghini founded a fourth company, Lamborghini
Oleodinamica in 1969. He finally sold all of his businesses in the
late 1970s and retired to an estate in Umbria, where he pursued
winemaking.
The history of LEGO By: Victor
The story of Legoland Billund begins with the toy
bricks invented by Ole Kirk Christiansen, a carpenter
from Billund. Christiansen first began producing toys under the name
Lego in 1934. Legos weren’t the interlocking plastic bricks that we
know today, but wooden toys and blocks built to a high
standard of quality that Christiansen believed was
missing in most toys. The name Lego comes from the Danish “leg godt,”or
“play well.” In 1947 Christiansen began experimenting with plastic
bricks. The interlocking system was introduced two years later
in 1949.
If you love Lego you could join the Lego APS Club or
visit LEGO LAND in Dubai!

Charles Drew was a surgeon was the
inventor of the blood bank. Though
he was of African American
descent, he received good education.
During his residency at Colombia
University’s Presbyterian Hospital,
Drew developed a technique for the
long-term preservation of blood
plasma (the liquid part of blood)
from the whole blood (containing
the red blood cells) and then
refrigerated the two for transfusion
by combining them even after a
week.
He also determined that each person
has certain type of blood (A,B,AB
or O) and therefore a person cannot
receive a full blood transfusion from
someone with a different blood type
though everyone had the same type
of plasma. Drew’s discoveries have
saved countless lives.

Trip By: Dana
My CM1 class went on a class trip to RAK on the 16
th of April to
the 18th
of April. We went with a company called Ecoventure.
The first day we went to the mangroves. We went for a nature
walk and saw mangrove trees, crabs and we crossed a river that
changes from low tide to high tide very quickly. We had a
scavenger hunt. Finally, we looked for crabs. On the second day,
we got to see many different animals and we could hold them.
There were snakes, gerbils, turtles, lizards and hedgehogs. We
went kayaking and snorkeling as well. We dissected a squid and
put the ink from the squid on our faces for fun. The third day we
went kayaking, raft building and identified animals from their
bones. We also discussed what plankton was. We arrived back to
Dubai with big smiles on our faces but we were happy to see our
family and have some rest!
Jupiter By: Myriam
Jupiter is the fourth brightest object in the solar
system. Only the Sun, Moon and Venus are brighter. It
is one of five planets visible to the naked eye from
Earth.
Jupiter has the shortest day of all the planets.
It turns on its axis once every 9 hours and 55 minutes.
The rapid rotation flattens the planet slightly, giving it a
strange shape.
Jupiter orbits the Sun once every 11.8 Earth years.
From our point of view on Earth, it appears to move
slowly in the sky, taking months to move from one
constellation to another.
Jupiter has unique cloud features.
The upper atmosphere of Jupiter is divided into cloud
belts and zones.
The Great Red Spot is a huge storm on Jupiter.
It has raged for at least 350 years. It is so large that
three Earths could fit inside it.

pink table, a pink telephone, a pink shower– everything
was pink! What color were the stairs ?
4) Two mothers and two daughters went out to eat,
everyone ate one burger, yet only three burgers were
eaten in all. How is this possible ?
5) A man was outside taking a walk, when it started to
rain. The man didn’t have an umbrella and he wasn’t
wearing a hat. His clothes got soaked, yet not a single
hair on his head got wet. How could this happen?
