MARKETING OVERVIEW
LHI is anticipating a year of steady investment in 2017 with some exciting new technologies starting to take hold. Our magazine, digital platforms and social media pages will be bringing your news to our readers, helping them make buying decisions and making sure they know about the latest equipment and technologies which can make their businesses more productive.
STEADY GROWTH PREDICTED
The on-going effect of the last recession is that no one feels confident in predicting massive upturns in the fortune of their industry. Factors such as low oil prices have eroded a fragile confidence and some of the ‘high growth’ regions have slowed down but despite that, steady growth has been evident in some markets.
However, indicators are now showing that the industries employing industrial lifting and handling equipment will be investing significantly over the next five years and LHI is the ideal vehicle to help you target those customers.
According to research from US company Industrial Info Resources the North American industrial market will continue to spend significantly on heavy lifting and material handling equipment
(HLMHE). Despite continued market uncertainty, the forecast highlights a spend demand outlook for HLMHE of some $7.96 billion between 2016 and 2020.
The forecast shows that overhead cranes account for 91% of the spending demand between 2016 and 2020, with the biggest component of this being made up by bridge & gantry cranes at 69%, or $3.75 billion. Another category within this group is power hoists, which account for 12.3% or just over $1 billion.
The 2016 Rental Reports from IPAF showed that in 2015 worldwide fleets had increased by 4% - US by 5%, Europe 3% and the developing Chinese market by 35%. Steady growth can be anticipated in 2016 and 2017.

EDITORIALThe Editor of LHI, Maria Hadlow, is a qualified engineer with more than 20 years experience writing about engineering, technology and lifting equipment. LHI is also backed by a team of senior writers from our sister publications all aimed at delivering the most relevant information to help our readers succeed in their specific fields.
Our coverage of news, regular contributions from IPAF along with occasional opinion pieces from the Overhead Alliance and LEEA, routine site reports and focus on new products, continues to keep decision makers up-to-date with all that is significant in our industry.
SPENDING POWER The biggest spending market on lifting and material handling is industrial manufacturing. A steadily increasing stock market along with low fuel costs have driven capital spending and also attracted significant reshoring. It is expected that although the automotive sector will not be building many new facilities, it will invest in refurbishment, retooling and expansion leading to spend in lifting and handling equipment.
Investment in transport aircraft, airports, trains, ships etc., remains active both in new equipment, new facilities and maintenance.
Deepwater ports worldwide are investing in equipment to handle more volume and larger containers along with equipment to comply with the changes to Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) regulation, which came into force on 1 July 2016 to require all containers have a verified weight certificate before being loaded on to a ship.
While spend in the oil and gas sector may have dropped, power generation is still an important market worldwide including wind turbines and the upgrading of existing power stations.
NEW TECHNOLOGIES Our targeted editorial is an ideal way of bringing the message of new technologies to your potential customers.
Innovation and development towards Industry 4.0 or The Internet of Things are becoming technologies of today, not tomorrow. According to the MHI (Material Handling Institute) the top four emerging technologies are: robotics and automation, inventory & network optimisation tools, sensors & automatic identification and predictive analysis.
By bringing information on these technologies to a wide audience LHI plays it’s part in the education and information of its readers.
