Cut Through Clutter to More Precise Results:New nexis.com Enhancements Offer Increased Efficiency Cut through clutter and strengthen the accuracy of your research with the latest enhancements to nexis.com. Three new features let you efficiently manage your search results for greater time and cost savings. Specify what you need up front, eliminating extraneous results with the following new features:

Hone Results with FOCUS™ by Date Now when your result list displays, look in the upper-right corner for the FOCUS by Date option.*

With FOCUS by Date, there’s no need to execute multiple searches to track the chronology of an issue. Just click on the drop-down menu, select a date range to further hone your answer set and click Go. It’s just that easy.

And, as part of the FOCUS™ feature, there’s no charge for using this date function to create subsets of results.

Reduce Similar Documents with Enhanced Deduplication Feature Now available for use with all news content, you can determine how closely documents must match and avoid reviewing duplicate documents. Whether you print a result list or full documents, you get what you need faster.

New Search Form: The option to “dedupe” displays on any new search form, and you determine its use. The dedupe setting from your previous search will be used for your next search unless you change the setting or turn off the dedupe function. Note: While you can change the duplicate setting in results, this will not change the search form setting.

Search Results: An icon displays to alert you that duplicate documents were found in your research results. “Lead documents,” documents that represent groups of duplicate documents, are identified on the results list by an icon and by an extra line in the cite display indicating the number of duplicates as well as a hyperlink that lets you see the duplicates. Also, at the bottom of a results list page, the number of results analyzed and the number of duplicate documents is displayed.

*Available for all nexis.com sources except Public Records sources

Lead Documents: In your Preferences, you can define how the research system selects the document that represents a group of duplicates in a results list. There are four options:

• FirstOnline:Fromagroupofduplicatedocumentsthesystemwillselectthedocumentthatwas the first to become available to our online system.

• LastOnline:Thesystemwillselectthedocumentthatwasthelasttobecomeavailabletoour online system.

• MostinCommon:Thesystemwillselectthedocumentthat, onaverage, ismostlikealltheothers. When the same story runs in multiple publications, but some publications cut a paragraph here or there for length, then the system generally selects the fullest version of the story.

• Appearsfirstbasedon…sort:Thesystemrepresentsthegroupofduplicateswithwhatever document would have been highest in the results list in whatever sort order the user had picked. This preference setting is the default.

View Duplicates: You can gain access to all identified duplicate documents through the duplicates-found icon to make sure that what’s been identified as a dupe isn’t something you want to consider for your answer set.

What Happened Here? Link News to Your Graphics With New Statistical DataSets FeatureYou may be familiar with LexisNexis Statistical DataSets, the Web-based interface that lets you access over 14 billion data points for your vital statistical research. Whether or not you’re a numbers person, finding and comparing criteria to help develop the big picture is probably a critical component of your job.

Now LexisNexis Statistical DataSets helps you to get even more from your results with its new What Happened Here feature. This new feature lets you put your statistics into better perspective, identifying news stories and other documents that relate to your selected statistical time series.

Target Time to Determine TrendsYou can expand on the Statistical DataSets solution by creating relationships with information repositories, using linked-in content provided via a Yahoo!® search. Link to external information by double-clicking a point within a trend graph. Statistical DataSets uses the information gathered from the selected criteria to formulate a search that is executed within the Yahoo! search engine. Yahoo! News results are returned, adding context to the information found in the graph, i.e., detailing the cause of a spike or a decline and explaining “what happened here.”

To access the What Happened Here feature, double-click on any point within a trend graph.

What Happened Here uses the information gathered from the selected criteria to formulate a search within the Yahoo! search engine.

Then just click on a Yahoo! document link, which will open the document in a new window. (Or use the Previous and Next arrows to navigate to additional documents.)

To further refine your results, you simply modify the pre-formed Yahoo! search by typing terms into the search and clicking Update. And because these Yahoo! documents are opened in a separate window, you never leave the Statistical DataSets site so you can easily return.
