Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Concert Night Thank you to the huge number of families who attended the Concert Night on the evening of 3rd Decem-
ber . This was a wonderful event and showcased the talents of so many of our gifted students. Our Dance Groups in K-2
and Years 3-6 were fabulous, the choir were impressive, our soloists did a magnificent job, six students performed out-
standingly on piano, and one on oboe, as well as our School Band who performed 17 musical items very well including;
Power Rock, Tango and Cha Cha. The Korean Dance Group was also a great addition to the program. Many, many thanks
are owed to the students involved who have worked so hard during 2013 to perfect their skills, to parents who have sup-
ported students with their interest and talents and to a fantastic group of teachers who have worked throughout the year
with students to encourage and build their skills in performing arts, may I especially thank, Miss Megan Hollis, Miss Court-
ney Gilbert, Miss Erica Brown, Miss Tara Swiney, Miss Ashlynne Krilich, Miss Kelly Roach, Miss Diana Shin, Mrs Jo Ryan and
also the additional staff who supported with equipment and staging on the evening this was very much appreciated.
Happy Retirement Mrs Sue Robertson! At the end of 2013 Leumeah Public School will be wishing Mrs Robertson a fabu-
lous time in her retirement after a long and illustrious career in teaching. Mrs Robertson has been a highly successful
teacher at our school who has mentored many teachers and has always been a model of a life-long learner and was inno-
vative and ready to consider new and better ways to ensure effective learning throughout her career. She provided count-
less students with self-confidence as learners and a love of learning, after 17 years at our school she is looking forward to
spending more time with family and friends and we wish her every happiness and thank her for service to students at Le-
umeah Public School.
Presentation Day Yesterday was our whole school presentation day beginning with our K-2 students, Years 3 and 4 and
then our Years 5 and 6 students. It was a very warm day and congratulations to students at our school who showed
excellent behaviour throughout long sessions of being attentive audiences. Each presentation event was memorable but
several highlights worth noting were; the inaugural Cheryl Owen Award for an outstanding parent at our school was voted
upon by hundreds of members of our school community and the very worthy recipient was Mrs Wissal Baraka, who has for
a number of years been the Muslim Scripture teacher at our school and been a strong supporter of other events and the
school in general. Congratulations Mrs Baraka! The Student of the Year award for 2013 has gone to Leo Andrade who is
always an excellent role model to all students at Leumeah he is helpful and thoughtful and shows maturity beyond his
years, congratulations Leo! The highly sought after and very competitive Dux of Year 6 award was very close this year but
was, after careful deliberation awarded to Sanam Chowdury, Congratulations Sanam! Many thanks to all teachers, stage
leaders and especially Mrs Teresa Gosche for the huge amount of organisation which goes into ensuring a smooth well
planned Presentation for each group of students in our school.
Reminder Safety Procedures at our School Every day our school has a closed gates policy in place, this is to ensure that we
keep all of our students particularly our youngest students in the school. I strongly request that all parents who visit the
school follow this procedure and close gates to assist us in keeping all of our students as safe as possible.
REMINDER – School Uniform 2014 At the end of 2010 it was decided through a school community vote to change the
school uniform of Leumeah Public School. Since then we have had 3 years as a phase in time for all students to be in the
one current uniform. From the beginning of next year all of our students should be in the current red, black and white
school uniform. The School Uniform shop is trying to build up a stock of good second hand uniforms to assist families with
the costs of school uniforms. As Year 6 finish up at the end of 2013, and as other families relocate and leave our school we
would really like all families to please give the office any second-hand uniforms. These are also invaluable for new families
and for emergencies so please think of this if you are in this situation.
Yours sincerely
Mandy Shaw
Principal

Ready for high school
Can you recall what you were most apprehensive about when you started high
school? This video of Year 7 students explain why teens shouldn’t be worried about
starting high school, and how they can get off to a great start in the first few days.

Kik messenger
Does your child use Kik? Police have described it as ''the No.1 social media problem involving teenagers'', but most parents
would barely have heard of messaging app Kik before last week.

Choosing school shoes
Are expensive school shoes the best option for happy feet? Let's face it. School shoes have never been at the cutting edge
of fashion. In fact if you look at what your parents were wearing, the humble school shoe really hasn't evolved much at all.
Tips for choosing shoes: http://www.schoolatoz.nsw.edu.au/wellbeing/health/choosing-the-right-school-shoes
Teach your kids to be waterproof
As temperatures rise, the risk of drowning increases too. Review these water-safety tips to help keep your family safe this
summer.

Library News
All library books are due back no matter when they were borrowed.
As the year’s end fast approaches we ask that ALL students return their borrowed books
ASAP. This helps us to reconcile any losses and saves paper in sending home multiple
overdue notes. If there is a discrepancy of a book where you think it may have been
returned, but has NOT reached the library yet, please write a note on the end of the
overdue note and send back to the library or ring and ask to speak to Mrs Allen in the
Library 4625 5245 and we will clear this up. All genuinely lost books which are lost or
damaged need to be paid for including home readers.
Thank you for your assistance, as always your co-operation is appreciated.
Mrs Allen

Hi All,
It’s getting close to the end of the year so just a reminder to ensure that your children have all
the uniform items they will need next year by buying or ordering them before the end of 2013. If
you are unable to stock up this year you will be pleased to know that we will open on Tuesday,
28th January, 2014, from 10am - 2pm this is Staff Development the day before school starts. This
day can become quite busy so please try to bring the correct money as we have no way of
getting change. (No Eftpos Available) We also sell out of some items so if you definitely will be in
need of a particular uniform item, it would be wise to buy or order now.
Also, a reminder to donate uniforms that your children have grown out of back to the school, so
we can supply second hand uniforms to families that are suffering financial hardship. All sizes are
needed and would be greatly appreciated.
We will take this opportunity to wish you a good holiday and a Happy New Year!!
The Uniform Committee
Terri Anderson, Otila Taukatelata and Gemma Perrett
