LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
CHAPTER ACCOLADES UPCOMING EVENTS
Dear Members of Sub-Region 1,
Greetings fellow Midwesterners! With the semester coming to a
close, and the holiday season swiftly approaching, I am reminded of
the many things I have to be thankful for. With our future goals loom-
ing over our head, it can be easy to forget the little things that we may
take for granted every day. For instance, things such as the ability to
call or see family members on a regular basis, or the ability to afford
a roof over our heads and food to fill up our stomachs, are things that
may be overlooked as we progress towards success. Luckily, the holi-
day season is a chance for us to remember, reflect, and most impor-
tantly relax. I wish everyone in the Midwest Region success on their
finals and safe travels home. Enjoy this momentary break from the
realities and rigors of life as a law student and come back refreshed
and ready to work. It has been a true pleasure serving as your Sub-
Regional Director thus far, and I look forward to finishing out the rest
of my tenure by visiting those chapters whom I have not had the
pleasure of fellowshipping with yet.
Respectfully,
Dorian V. George
Sub–Region 1 Director

THOMAS M. COOLEY LAW SCHOOL — GRAND RAPIDS CAMPUS
TMC-Grand Rapids Past & Present Events:
We have been off to a great start this semester. In fact, we were voted “The Best Student Organization of the
Year.” As a result of our hard work, we have seen an increase in our membership and participation. This
semester we had focused a lot of our energy to community service and fundraising, and boy have we been busy.
Hammers away…. This September, we joined forces with Habitat for Humanity to help build a house for a
deserving family in Grand Rapids area. We rolled up our sleeves and nailed away at trim work and carpentry.
We can’t wait until the ribbon cutting ceremony when the family will be presented with the house. There is no
greater feeling than knowing you helped established one the most vital part of the family, the home.
Lunch is served…. This October, our members lent their time at God’s Kitchen. Members had a chance to reach
our immediate community by preparing and serving food at a local soup kitchen, just blocks from our school.
Trick or Treat…. We recently completed Halloween-O-Grams, which was our fundraiser for October. It is a simple
fundraiser that brings a great return. We sell personalized candy bags and deliver the bags in Halloween
costumes. The fundraiser has been a hit amongst the students; because it gives them a break in the monotony
of class, and who doesn’t love candy!
What’s next?…. Our chapter has worked to create a tradition of providing helpful and non-traditional
programming at the end of the term. Our programs generally ease the student body into final exams with a
positive attitude. This semester we will be presenting, ―Relax, Relate, Review.‖ It is a week filled with stress-
free activities to help center the students before finals. Our student body with the opportunity to experience
massages, manicures, pedicures, inspirational speakers, and Mock Exams.
With the holiday season quickly approaching, we want to spread the holiday cheer around. We will adopt the
family we worked with for Habitat for Humanity and provide their Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas gifts.
Best wishes to all the BLSA chapters and have a Happy Holiday Season!!!!
