Life and learning at The

Anthony School continues at

quite a rapid pace. It is hard to

believe that the Christmas break

is over and the new 2016 year is

at hand.

January 1 of

any new year is

usually when we

engage in critically needed

introspection, vowing to become

better human beings with the

start of a new year. Any number

of self-improvement resolutions

are imagined and lists drawn up

with promises of how we intend

to change for the better.

At The Anthony School

January 1 is everyday. Critical

thinking, improvement of

programs,

innovations

for the future,

and daring to go outside the box

to educate are conversations

that do not depend on a new

year.

Our standards of education

are high, our

expectation of

respect is

enforced, our

PK3 – 8th grades’ preparation for

the next level of education is

unmatched, and our traditions of

the past are blended with

innovations for the future. We are

ParentCrew News Get involved! Please join us for our upcoming ParentCrew meeting Wednesday, January

13th at 8:15am in TAS cafeteria. All parents are welcome to attend!

Volunteer Spotlight: Allison Waldo - “What can I do to help?” These are

typically the first words you hear from Allison Waldo. She is always eager to

lend a hand! Her smiling face and enthusiasm are contagious. She hosted

our December ParentCrew meeting at her home and did so with such

warmth and welcome. Throughout this year she has been actively

involved with almost every aspect of ParentCrew such as Panther Dash,

the TASte event, Free Starbucks drop-ins, plus volunteers as homeroom

mom and is active in girl scouts. She is the proud mom of 3 TAS students

and holds a board position with ParentCrew as New Student Ambassador

/ New Parent Liaison (but we simply refer to her as our “social chair”

because she is committed to coordinating many opportunities throughout

the year for TAS families to enjoy one another). She believes a sense of

community is important for our parents and we couldn’t agree more!

These are just a few of the many ways Allison Waldo volunteers to make

TAS truly a unique and wonderful school to attend. We feel privileged to

have her and her family as part of TAS and ParentCrew and it is with much

pride that we nominate Allison Waldo as January Volunteer of the Month!

TAS Tailgate Trivia

Save the date for the first ever TAS Tailgate Trivia! Each year ParentCrew

hosts a spring fundraiser to raise funds for a specific project around school.

We have enjoyed various themes through the

years with Canvas being the most recent. Canvas

is a huge success each year, but Canvas works

better as an every-other-year event due to the

labor intensity of the student artwork. We were

looking for a light-hearted, super casual event for

Canvas’s off years. Enter in… TAS Tailgate Trivia…

Irreverent fun & a truckload of prizes!

The event is set for Saturday, March 5th & will be held in the gym. Teams of

8 will battle it out for a grand prize. Don’t want to play? You can purchase

a spectator ticket & still enjoy the fun. We are excited to have a

professional Trivia Jockey from Challenge Entertainment to lead the

gaming (www.challengeentertainment.com). There will be tons of prizes

to win throughout the evening, some don’t-miss-it auction items, & for the

first time ever… mobile bidding with smart phones! Attendees will supply

refreshments of their choice for their assigned “tailgate” area – or have us

cater your tailgate for an increased ticket price. Details will be going out

to everyone very soon.

As you may know, the homeroom fees you pay at the beginning of the year help fund homeroom teacher

gifts and class parties. This year, with thanks to the success of Panther Dash, ParentCrew gifted EVERY faculty

member and EVERY specialty teacher $50! This is a small way to show our appreciation and acknowledge ALL

staff for their service throughout the year.

Cold weather is officially here…..wanna stay warm? Let ParentCrew cover your carpool duty. For a $50

donation, we will send a volunteer on your behalf! *One week notice required.

We are excited to announce that The Anthony School annual fund (The Anthony Campaign) has been

awarded a Challenge Grant from an anonymous individual if we reach at least 50% family participation in

The Anthony Campaign by May 15, 2016.

Since 2003 when the annual fund began, 100% of the Board of

Trustees and 100% of the Faculty/Staff have made a gift to the fund

each year. Now we need our families to reach towards that same

goal. The average private school in the United States has a parent

participation rate of 64.8% and we know that our TAS families are way above average in every respect.

Any donation amount will help us qualify for the grant. Please give at the level that is comfortable for

your family. Donations may be made online at http://www.anthonyschool.org/TheAnthonyCampaign.aspx.

Feel free to contact Sarah Lindsey Harrison at [email protected] with any questions about

donations or The Anthony Campaign.

8th GRADERS CONCLUDE FIRST PANTHER PARTNERS PROGRAM

The Panther Partners program, created to engender positive

relationships between our middle school students and their

younger counterparts, ended with a December celebration. Thanks to Valerie Steinberg for providing Crispy

Cakes for the 2nd grade Lil’ Panthers and their 8th grade Big Panthers. This program was created by Mrs.

TAS DRAMA STUDENTS TRAVEL TO ATLANTA

Our TAS Drama students who performed Aladdin, JR. in the fall of 2014 will attend the Junior Theater

Festival in Atlanta in January. Playbill just released an incredible article about the Junior Theater Festival. Our

students will be coached by, perform in front of, meet and greet, and watch performances by some of the

biggest names in Broadway. What an incredible opportunity for our talented kids! The Anthony School is the

only school in Arkansas that attends, and among one of the very few non Performing Arts schools, or Theater

Arts groups overall. Read more here: http://m.playbill.com/news/article/darren-criss-and-andrew-keenan-

PLAYGROUND TREE DONATION

PreK parents donated a tree in honor of TAS PreK4 student, Charles Wells. The tree was recently planted

on our playground. The tree is a Black Gum and turns bright red in the fall. It was so cute to watch the

children realize what was happening as Perry

of Bemis Tree and Honeybee Farm began to

dig the tree’s hole during morning recess!
