LET’S HEAR FROM OUR MEMBERS...

How Do I Stay Purposeful for 2016?

I am a retiree living a very purposeful life. I hope to encourage more U Live members to join and lead a purposeful life with me in 2016.Mohan Dass (67 years old)

I want to offer more of my time at voluntary organisations to enrich the lives of the less privileged and bring joy to the elderly. I also look forward to attending workshops and programmes for seniors to enjoy and achieve a more fulfi lling life in 2016. Karen Ong (65 years old)

I hope to conserve our vulnerable ecosystem

and share my knowledge gained as a U Live

Park Ambassador to others. This is one of

the ways to keep my body and mind active.

In 2016, I look forward to spreading the

word on caring for Mother Earth and wish

that more people would join me!

Richard Chua (56 years old)

In 2016, I hope to unfold my dreams and aspirations,

keep fi t by making healthier food choices, and lead an

active lifestyle by participating in dramas, singing and

dancing. Also, I aim to reach out to those who think

that age is catching up by encouraging them to partake

in U Live activities.

the Gold Award at the Community-In-Bloom Awards as well as the NParks Champion for Gardeners Cup.

As a U Live Ambassador, he champions gardening and actively promotes awareness in keeping the environment clean and green to the younger generation. He facilitated workshops to share his knowledge on caring for indoor plants.

He sees his hobby turned post-retirementpursuit as his way of paying forward. Currently, he is exploring modern methods of organic gardening that reduces the use of harmful chemical fertilisers and pesticides, and hopes to promote the use of such methods to more people.

V Nalini (57 years old)Nalini is a working mum who loves the beauty of nature and often takes time to admire fl owers in bloom. Slowly, her interest in herbs and their uses grew, which comes in handy when she cooks for her family!

Her fi rst participation with U Live is the 6-session Park Ambassador Programme, and has been contributing actively since. One of her most memorable experiences was learning more about the mangroves and how important they are to the entire ecosystem.

Clara Ng (64 years old) Clara was walking through her neighbourhood one day when she passed by a group of elderly people chatting away. She was disheartened as one said that there was nothing much they could do in life, now that their age was catching up and they could no longer be active.

Watching them, she realised that she had to equip herself to age actively. Putting her health and well-being fi rst, she participated in the U Live Walk for Wellness, spending her morning keeping fi t with a group of Active Agers. She also signed up for Health & Wellness Day (Food Edition) to learn about improving health through eating right.

She willingly shares her passion and knowledge for active ageing with others. She encourages and motivates others to do the same and start leading an active lifestyle. Her advice for those looking to live a more purposeful and fulfi lling life? “Do something. Give a little of your time to the community!”

Arshad Bin Suradi (64 years old)A budding photographer since his younger days, Arshad always carries a camera around to capture memorable moments.

So it is no surprise that he responded to an Open Call by U Live to be groomed as a Photography Ambassador. Thanks to the programme, he learned more about photography and got the opportunity to pursue it full-time when he retired.

Having graduated at the U Live Symposium as an Active 55+ participant this year, he looks forward to snapping photos that tell a story and hopefully inspire others.

“The programme not only livens up my days, but has widened my perspective, exposing me to new experiences. It gave me a sense of belonging, keeping me active and living a purposeful life doing what I love after retirement!”

TIME TO MEET SOMEONE NEW…

Yan Oi Leng (61 years old)For years, Oi Leng’s life revolved around her family and her job, and she hardly participated in any activities outside her home and offi ce. When her children became more independent, she was at a loss as to what to do next.

Her passion for the arts led her to participate in the U Live Theatre Workshop for Seniors. A self-confessed theatre fan, she transformed from theatre-goer to actor, producer, and even scriptwriter through the programme. She acted at the 50 Plus Expo 2015 and also wrote the skit for the U Live SG50 Celebration event.

“The programme changed my life, providing endless opportunities to meet new people and learn new things.” Now, she is not only constantly active, but feels happier, healthier, and younger!

Performing Arts

He sees bowling as a way to de-stress and to keep himself healthy, both in body and in mind. To him, U Live is benefi cial to active agers who have a variety of interests they want to pursue, as it provides an avenue for them to sustain and maintain those interests. Sebastian’s mantra for U Live and their programmes to others, “There’s nothing to lose and everything to gain!”.

Do you have some background in acting, scripting or directing? Have a passion to facilitate fellow peers

to develop skits together? If your answer is YES, we want you! Write or Email Us Today!
