Know Your Resources Ahead of Time

Online information– DOH and SKCPH websites– Notification templates– Information for customers– EPA Total Coliform Rule website

Within the Department or City– Identifying skills needed– Equipment and/or supplies– Volunteers / CERT

Mutual aid– Capabilities of other utilities– Technical, physical, PIO, etc.

Managing Sustained Emergency Operations

Emergency response doesn’t normally extend past 3 days– ICS training doesn’t emphasize

managing extended events

Critical elements– Staffing– Food and shelter/lodging– Equipment and supplies

Use of mutual aid– When and how

Event Documentation– Logs, photos, work orders, etc.
