“the glory of God was upon Moses” (v2)

“Transfiguration is a special change in appearance and nature which is wrought upon a person or thing by the power of God. This divine transformation is from a lower to a higher state; it results in a more exalted, impressive, and glorious condition. . . . “By the power of the Holy Ghost many prophets have been transfigured so as to stand in the presence of God and view the visions of eternity” (Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, 2nd ed. [1966], 803)

“thou art in the similitude of mine Only Begotten” (v6)

• Moses is in the similitude of Christ.• Who is speaking here?• Jesus Christ. Wait, what?• Divine investiture“Divine investiture is defined as that condition in which --in all His dealings with the human family Jesus the Son has represented and yet represents Elohim His Father in power and authority. ... Thus. .. Jesus Christ spoke and ministered and through the Father's name; and so far as power, authority and Godship is concerned His words and acts were and are those of the Father.” – Neal A Maxwell

Revelation since the Fall

“All revelation since the fall has come through Jesus Christ, who is the Jehovah of the Old Testament. . . . He is the God of Israel, the Holy One of Israel; the one who led that nation out of Egyptian bondage, and who gave and fulfilled the Law of Moses. The Father has never dealt with man directly and personally since the fall, and he has never appeared except to introduce and bear record of the Son” (Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, comp. Bruce R. McConkie, 3 vols. [1954–56], 1:27)

President Joseph Fielding Smith

Moses 1:1–6

“I acknowledge the reality of opposition and adversity that so often come after enlightened decisions have been made, after moments of revelation and conviction…”“but I bear witness that God has set bounds and limits to the opposing powers of darkness…”“and when the second, and the third, and the fourth blows come, fear ye not, the Lord shall fight for you.”

How was Satan dealt with?“The importance of not accommodating temptation in the least degree is underlined by the Savior’s example. Did not he recognize the danger when he was on the mountain with his fallen brother, Lucifer, being sorely tempted by that master tempter? [see Matthew 4:1–11.] He could have opened the door and flirted with danger by saying, ‘All right, Satan, I’ll listen to your proposition. I need not succumb, I need not yield, I need not accept—but I’ll listen.’ “Christ did not so rationalize. He positively and promptly closed the discussion, and commanded: ‘Get thee hence, Satan,’”- Spencer W. Kimball, The Miracle of Forgiveness

Page 9: Lesson 5 – Moses 1

Why is this not in the Bible?

• Satan tries to remove himself from the scriptures:– The origin of Satan (Moses 4:1-4)– The temptation of Adam and Eve (Moses 4:5-12)– The temptation of the sons and daughters of Adam

and Eve (Moses 5:12-13)– Cain’s covenants with Satan (Moses 5:18-31)

• “The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.”
