Dear Family,This week we’ll talk about celebrating the

last day of Kindergarten. In the fantasy story

Miss Bindergarten Celebrates the Last Day of Kindergarten, children will read about an

alphabetical celebration. Children will explore

the question “What clues tell you what a

character is thinking and feeling?” They will also

read an informational text comparing schools in

the past and today.

This week’s…Words to Know: do, down, have, help, look, off, out, take

Phonics Skills: Review short vowel alphafriends; blending review (all letters)

Vocabulary Strategy: Environmental print

Comprehension Skill: Understanding characters—tell more about characters

Comprehension Strategy: Summarize—stop to tell important events as you read

Writing Focus: Write to express—write poems

Activities to Do Together

VocabularyTake turns saying sentences for each of this week’s Words to Know. For example, say “Have. I have all my crayons.” Then have your child say the word and a new sentence. Continue until both of you have said sentences for each word.

What If?Ask your child, “What if you could interview a first-grader right now? What would you ask about first grade?” Talk about this with your child.

My Favorite YearTalk about what your child liked most about kindergarten. Write: My favorite part of Kindergarten was ___ because ___. Help your child finish the sentence by first saying and then writing what he or she liked about kindergarten.

Go to Destination Reading to reinforce this week’s skills.
