IT IS OURS: Modise Motlaping stands next to one of the buses (PHOTO: FARIRAYI KAHWEMBA)

Rustenburg Rapid Transport (RRT) on Tuesday launched and offi cially named their new transport system that is set to change the face of the city when it is fully operational.

The name Yarona (which means “It is ours” in Swetswana) was selected following the input of residents, learners and stakeholders after more than 3 700 suggestions that were submitted following interviews with around 500 local residents.

“The launching of the name and logo for our public transport service is another important step in the project which is on track to deliver its fi rst services in 2016,” Rustenburg’s MMC for Planning and Transport services, Amos Mataboge, said. The city’s executive mayor – Mpho Khunou – pointed out that a quality transport system is one of the pillar upon which Rustenburg’s economy will be anchored on.

“Public transport is something of which people should be proud of and have a sense of ownership,” Khunou said. “This project is

funded with taxpayer’s money and will be operated as a service for all residents. This service will also help to support greater social cohesion through providing safe, effi cient and reliable public transport services which all residents should feel comfortable to access,” he added. “The brand puts the customer at the customer at the heart of our service, and customer service and delivery are the core values we have set. Other values include being professional, reliable, trustworthy and accountable,” Khunou explained.

The mini-bus and bus industry also expressed their support for the brand name as they continue with a negotiation process that will formalise the contractual arrangements for the operation of the system.

Stakeholders and guests were also transported by two of the buses on a site visit of the completed bus lanes, pedestrian walk ways and cycle paths that are situated along the R104.

AIMING HIGH: Lucky Vincent

A Rustenburg-based musician is on the verge of writing his own piece of history after he was nominated in three categories of the prestigious South African Traditional Music Awards (SATMA).

Lucky Vincent – who is making a name for himself in the music industry – has received nominations in the Best Setswana Album, Best African Jazz

and Most Downloaded Song categories. The theme for this year’s SATMA Awards – to be held at the University Of Fort Hare on 17 and 18 October – is “My Freedom is My Heritage.” The awards are billed to be the biggest ever as SATMA will be celebrating 10 years of hosting the event. Lucky Vincent is a prominent jazz pianist, composer and producer, who comes from Lesung Village, near Rustenburg. “His real name is Lucky Vincent Motshwari and he is an accomplished music graduate with extensive experience in live Jazz performance,” Tshepo Makinita, a respected artist, told Leseding News. “Having had shared the stage with great legends like the Soweto String Quartet, Dorothy Masuku, McCoy Mrubata, Bheki Khoza and many more, he is an emerging force,” he added. Lucky Vincent will be attending the Award Ceremony at the University of Fort Hare in Alice (Eastern Cape) on 17 and 18 October 2014 and if you would like to vote for him, you can call 078 623 7693. He is banking on you for support as he looks to win at least one SATMA award this year. Born and raised in Lesung Village in the North West province, Motshwari developed his music while being infl uenced by the rich, distinctive sound of the Batswana tribesmen. In his upbringing – alongside the countryside lifestyle of herdboys, domestic farming, folklore and traditional song – Lucky became a vibrant

piano player with a classical discipline mixed with folk melodies. He graduated in music after completing his training at East Side College. Apart from being a composer, Lucky is also a pianist and lead vocalist. Since his early university years in 2001, Motshwari has played with giants of the music trade such as Bheki Khoza, Tlokwe Sehume, McCoy Mrubata and many more. He has also travelled to other countries such as Botswana, Algeria, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Lucky has already released his fi rst Afro Jazz album - “Dikgaga Tsa Magaga” in May 2011. His band is also made up of bassist Jimmy Baloyi, drummer Mike Motsupi, saxophonist George Gaompotse and Shell Taukobong, who has worked with the likes of Tshepo Tshola, Don Laka, Sello Galane and other musicians.

PLATINUM PEOPLE

Mrs United Nation South Africa is a national competition that gives married women a platform to make a difference in their communities, charities and families.

The winner of this competition will compete in the international event in 2015. It is against such a background that Given Mmane – North West’s representative for the Mrs United Nation South Africa 2014/15 event that will

be held in November – is hoping to raise around R16 000 before the end of the month as this would put her in a strong position to win the prestigious event. “So far I have raised R20 000 to assist communities and I need an additional R16 000. As one the fi nalists of this year’s event, I must demonstrate the capability of securing fi nancial resources because this is one area that the judges will be looking at,” Given told Leseding News in an interview. A former Miss Rustenburg for the 2011/12 year, Given is one of ten semi-fi nalists who will be taking part in the Mrs United Nations South Africa fi nals, which will be held on 29 November in Centurion, Gauteng.

While the top three ladies will be selected at the fi nals, only one will walk away with the prestigious title of Mrs United Nations South Africa 2015. “The winner will represent South Africa in the international event, which will be held next year in Jamaica. “Currently, I am involved in mentoring 23 girls. I am also looking to sell advertising space in the Mrs. United Nations magazines. “I would be grateful if people from the North West are able to assist

me either with my fundraising activities, doing photocopies of documents or any other area. They can contact me on 079 067 7100 or [email protected]. “I would like to also thank those who have assisted me so far. I would really appreciate it if more people come on board,” she added. Each contestant competes in the Interview , Tennis Wear, Evening Gown and Community Service Competition (contestants can already be involved with community work, but it is not compulsory to enter the competition - as long as they have a plan or a project they would like to further should they be the winner or a fi nalist). Husbands are also part of the show as they escort their wives in the evening gown competition. The main purpose of this competition is to showcase the woman of South Africa. Specifi cally, to show that they can manage a family, have a career, support their community, and have a successful marriage all at the same time.

Mrs United Nation SA is a woman who can do it all with elegance and grace. She is someone who does not change after she wins the title. She is a winner before she even wears the crown. People enjoy just being around her and their lives are touched forever by her humility and charm.Mrs united Nation must have the genuine support of her family and friends. Without support, love and respect, a winner cannot live up to the ideals established for this competition. Different from a” Miss” competition, the winner of this title is not selected as an individual. She is judged and selected based on her family values and established family support and love. Mrs United Nation is overwhelmed and thrilled upon fi rst being crowned the winner. However, she soon grows to appreciate the honour and responsibility placed upon her. LOYAL: Platinum Stars supporters (PHOTOS: FARIRAYI KAHWEMBA)

Football loving fans and supporters of Platinum Stars are unlikely to see their team in action at Moruleng Stadium this season with indications pointing towards a preference – by club management – of the Royal Bafokeng Sports palace in Phokeng.

In past seasons, Platinum Stars have used both Moruleng Stadium and Royal Bafokeng Sports Complex in Phokeng as alternate venues for their home matches. The move was an attempt to make the team – which to date remains the only club form the North West playing in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) – more popular among residents in the area, most of them known for their loyalty to Gauteng-based teams such as Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns. Playing their home matches in Moruleng was also meant to expose the topfl ight league to more football supporters who – normally – would not be able to travel to Phokeng. However, according to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) fi xtures programme, all of Platinum Stars’ home matches will be played at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Complex. The club’s coach Allan Freese told Leseding News that there are no immediate plans by the club’s management to host some of the team’s home matches to Moruleng Stadium. “Nobody has told

me about playing in Moruleng this season,” Freese said. “All the planning that we are making is based on the understanding that all our home matches will be at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium. “This will only change when management indicates to us,” he added. He emphasized that the venue of the club’s home matches is not important to him or his players. “Wherever we play, the important thing is for us to do well in the matches. We must make sure that we win as many matches as we can at home because away matches are generally tough.” he explained.

However, the decision not to play any matches is Moruleng is a sad revelation – particularly to the football loving people in Moruleng, who will not be able to see live football action. The move will also raise questions of whether or not Moruleng Stadium is being fully utilized. The 20 000 seat stadium was constructed at a cost of R174 million and became known nationally soon after completion, when it served as a training ground for teams competing in the 2009 FIFA Confederation Cup, 2010 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations 2013.The construction of the stadium created approximately 150 jobs for locals.
