Heston Leisure Centre Redevelopment
Leisure CentreIt is proposed to retain the Leisure Centre in its current position. This will result in there being no leisure facilities on this site for a period of 18 to 24 months.
The location has been retained as it maximises space for parking to the south and is a more attractive setting for the building.
The new building will be over two storeys and include an area of basement. Whereas the existing building is introverted and turns its back on Heston Park, the proposed scheme exploits the views to the north and creates a direct pedestrian route to the new All Weather Pitches and upgraded park area. The café and toilets will be available as a resource to all park users.
The proposed redevelopment comprises the following:
• 25m Pool• Learner Pool• 90-place Fitness Suite• 2no. Studios• Wet and dry changing
• Single sex Health Suites – Steam and Sauna• Café • Creche• Soft Play• 3rd Generation All Weather Five-a-Side pitches

Site C: ResidentialLand at 21 New Heston Road has been incorporated into the scheme, further to discussions with the owner, Shepherd’s Bush Housing Group (SBHG).
SBHG were considering options for redevelopment of their site and had made an approach to the Council regarding acquiring part of the current Leisure Site. Following discussions, it was
agreed to incorporate the SBHG project behind the library, so that SBHG could develop a more meaningful and economic development and provide their desired scale of development in a more appropriate part of the site. Using the land vacated by SBHG also enabled the road frontage to the Leisure Centre to be opened up, improving its presence on New Heston Road and the provision of a more efficient parking layout.

CIP BuildingThe existing Scout Hut is to be demolished to provide space for the SBHG development and reconfigured parking for the Leisure Centre. To ensure that the 4th Heston Scout group are able to continue operations, it has been necessary to find a new home within the new scheme.
Following review of a number of options, including use of the Village Hall and relocating to the Leisure Centre, it was agreed to use the vacant CIP building, which will be remodelled to provide the necessary space, storage and facilities required by the Scouts. Proposed Ground Floor Plan

The site is adjacent to the Children’s Home, which is to be retained and provided with a new, separate access. The layout provides a frontage to New Heston Road, behind which higher flatted development is located. Pedestrian links to provide access to the Leisure Centre and Heston Park has been in-built into the layout. Garden space provides a buffer between flatted development in the north of the site and Heston Park.

Heston Leisure Centre Redevelopment
Outdoor Leisure & PlayThe park currently has a number of hard-surfaced courts which are in a poor state of repair. Improvements to this area will include the addition of 3 new multi-use 5-a-side pitches. These will be designed to meet Sport England guidelines, and will be surfaced with the latest 3rd Generation (3G) artificial turf. In addition to the new pitches an outdoor gym area will be located near to the leisure centre.
The existing under 5’s playground located to the north of the current leisure centre will be relocated next to the current junior playground, and both will be improved to serve new residents and visitors.
