LCCC Hosts Cyber Competition LCCC hosted Civilian Air Patrol cadets from Squadron 904 in Quakertown on

Oct. 27 as they participated in the national CyberPatriot National Youth Cyber Defense competition. The competition puts teams of high school and middle school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. Through a series of online competition rounds, teams are given a set of virtual operating systems and are tasked with finding and fixing cybersecurity vulnerabilities while maintaining critical services. The top teams in the nation earn all-expenses-paid trips to Maryland for the National Finals Competition, where they can earn national recognition and scholarship money.

The squadron partnered with LCCC due to our designation as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense from the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security. Robert Ritter, one of LCCC’s CIS adjuncts, shepherded the cadets to the next level of competition. Additionally, he worked

with the squadron’s 1st lieutenant and coach to test the required hardware and software prior to the competition. The next round of competition will be Nov. 15.

The story is posted to the Times website and ran in the print edition on Sunday, Oct. 13. Ginny Mihalik coordinated the reporter’s visit to campus in partnership with Muhlenberg College.
