I’m 15 years old. I study in grade 10 at Nongborn High School. My family has four people: my father, my mother, my younger sister and me. I like to play sports and dance. I am also on a cheerleader team at my school. Having participated in Mittapab training, I can say that I am a more outgoing person. I have learned listening and speaking skills, how to build solidarity with others and how to solve conflict in daily life. In the past, I used to have a problem with my friend. After learning from Mittapab, I tried to apply my new knowledge in our relationship. I also give my friends advice when they have a conflict. In the same way I have courage to talk more with teachers whom I used to think were serious and mean. Even though we’ve been away from Mittapab for many weeks, I still have nostalgia. The older sisters and brothers taught me lessons in a fun way. I want to have an activity like this forever. Thanks to the Mittapab team, MCC and the facilitator. You have given me an opportunity to learn how we can improve our past mistakes, change our attitude and our conduct and live together. My two favorite activities are singing and playing guitar. My favorite foods are anything spicy. I would like to be a nurse. News Members of ASEAN—the Association of Southeast Asian Nations that Laos joined in 1997—account for more than half of Laos’s foreign trade. By the end of this year, ASEAN nations will have established the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), creating a single marketplace with 600 million consumers. For a small, landlocked country like Laos, the AEC offers great opportunities for export and employment. At the same time, Laos will face increased competition from other countries in the region. The AEC will be an opportunity for young people to learn new things from other countries, but differences in culture, language and religion may be a barrier. Update In January, Mittapab moved into a new office in the MCC guesthouse. It will be used for organizing trainings and housing a library for staff and volunteers. Mittapab students visited Houyxone Center to learn about organic agriculture. Sayfon (red shirt) listens to Mr. Chanpheng explain how to feed the animals.
