Tuesday 21st May 2019 PRINCIPAL GREEN’S PARAGRAPHS Here we are Term 2, Week 4 already. We have already achieved so much, with so much more to come. NAPLAN Mother’s Day stall Cross Country Carnival K-2 Fun Run Welcome to 5W Mr Carrett - I would like to welcome Mr Carrett to the role of classroom teacher for 5W. Mr Carrett knows our students and school routines very well and is very excited to be back in the classroom. I know the students of 5W will continue to achieve great things with the support of Mr Carrett. Mr Mechan was offered a permanent position at Elderslie Public School, which was an offer he simply could not refuse. I would like to thank Mr Mechan for his support of 5W over the past few weeks. Mother’s Day Stall - A big thank you to all of our parents who dedicated their time to help out with the Ambarvale Public School Mother’s Day stall. It is great to see people getting involved in our school and being part of the bigger Ambarvale Public School community. A huge thank you to Mrs Healey who wrapped and organised the presents for the day. Thanks also to all who supported our stall by purchasing items. I hope you all had a special day. Week 4 Pick Up and Drop Off Safety - I would like to remind all parents about the importance of safety in the morning and afternoons when picking up and dropping off your child/children. We have the two options available for students to enter the school grounds, these being the front gate and the back gate. If you use the back gate, please ensure that you are parking in the allocated car spaces beyond the council car park. As mentioned previously, the council car park is now leased to NSW Health for their staff parking. The car park is NO LONGER for community use during the week. DO NOT PARK ON THE GRASS NEAR THE BACK GATE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. Parking fines will be issued to those who choose to park on the grass. There is plenty of parking towards the playing fields where you will need to allow an extra 3-5 minutes to walk up to the school. We also have a ‘School Drop Off, Pick Up Zone’ at the front of the school where there is no parking between 2.30-4.00pm. Please be mindful of the Bus Zone as it is important that our students are safe. It’s important that the ‘lollipop man’ has a clear view of the traffic in order to walk our students safely across the pedestrian crossing. Please remember that the staff carpark is not to be used at any time as we need to ensure the safety of all who are using the carpark. NAPLAN - Congratulations to our Year 3 and 5 students on completing the NAPLAN assessments last week. Students displayed a positive attitude towards the assessments and did their best. NAPLAN results provide information on how students are performing in the areas of literacy and numeracy. Results will be out next term. I would like to thank our staff who supported throughout the week. They did an amazing job at ensuring all students felt calm, supported and well fed. Our students really enjoyed their breakfast each morning, giving them a great start to the testing that lay ahead. The brain always seems to function better when the tummy is full. Cross Country & Fun Run - Our Cross Country Carnival and K-2 Fun Run was a great success. Thanks to all who participated, supported and organised the Cross Country Carnival and K-2 Fun Run. The sun was shining and the Ambarvale All Star Spirit was on display by the Ambarvale PS community. It was a superb team effort by the Ambarvale PS staff, students and community. Gala Day - This Friday, a number of our Year 3-6 students will be participating in our first Winter Gala day for the term for netball and soccer. Representing Ambarvale Public School is something that our students should be very proud of. It is important that good sportsmanship is being displayed on the day; whilst following our school rules- ‘Be Safe’, ‘Be Respectful’, ‘Be Kind’ and ‘Be a Learner’. ‘Aim to be an Ambarvale All Star both in and out of the school grounds.’ Please note – You must hand your note and payment into the office before this Thursday or your child will not be able to attend.

Parent/Carers Meeting – We have a parent/carers meeting before our whole school assembly in Week 10, 1.00pm-2.00pm. It would be great to see you there. Mrs Karinna Green Principal PBL Focus This fortnight students have been revising the rule ‘Be Safe’. They have participated in a social story involving ‘how to walk around the school’. Students have revised the following expectations:

• Always walking on the concrete • Always keeping in two straight lines • Always staying in sight of a teacher (at all

times) • Always staying in designated areas (not

going out of bounds/beyond the blue lines)

• Always following teacher instructions the first time

KINDERGARTEN EXCURSION On the 10th May, Kindergarten visited Calmsley Hill City Farm! Both students and teachers engaged in a range of fun activities on the day. We watched a variety of shows about sheep shearing, whips and sheep dogs and discovered many interesting facts about farm animals. Students displayed enjoyment on the tractor ride and took pride in milking a cow! This excursion has promoted many stimulating learning opportunities. WOOLWORTHS EARN AND LEARN From Wednesday 1st May until Tuesday 25th June 2019 or while stock lasts, when you shop at Woolworths you can collect Woolworths Earn & Learn Stickers for every $10 spent (excluding liquor, tobacco, and gift cards) and place them on a Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker Sheet. Once completed, simply place the Sticker Sheet in the Collection Box in the school office.

WORKING BEE On Sunday 26th May from 9:15-12:30pm, Campbelltown Church of Christ will be at Ambarvale PS to help with some general maintenance issues. They would also love to help out some local families by tending their front lawns. They have 8 appointments that can be booked in for the morning. You are welcome to come and join them at Ambarvale PS for a Free BBQ breakfast and to make your appointment for your own front lawn. There will also be some kids activities that will be running, you can help the church with some maintenance around the school (picking up rubbish, weeding gardens etc.) or just come for a chat and some breakfast. If you would like some more details you can contact Rachel Goldsbrough on (02) 4625 7981 or [email protected]. Hope to see you there! THANK YOU A huge thank you goes out to Woolworths at Rosemeadow for supplying our students with fruit to eat during NAPLAN week. We would also like to say thank you to Coles for supplying the sausages for our Election Day BBQ which was a great success raising $1000 for our school.
