Tuesday 19 th November 2019 PRINCIPAL GREEN’S PARAGRAPHS It is hard to believe that we are already half way through Term 4 where we are already starting to plan for 2020. The year has certainly flown by with many events taking place, with more events to come over the remaining 5 weeks. 40 th Anniversary Update - Our classes have all been working hard to get their dance moves polished for our 40 th Fiesta- Dancing Through Time Concert. We had our whole school dress rehearsal last week and our classes did an amazing job on our make-shift stage. The costumes are looking super amazing and our students should be very proud of what they have achieved so far in their performances. We are looking forward to highlighting the many talents of the students here at Ambarvale Public School. This is an amazing experience for students to have the opportunity to perform on a big stage, in front of a large audience, showing everybody what they have been working on over the past term. The performance is on Tuesday 26 th November at Event Cinemas where there will be two concerts- 2pm and 5pm. Tickets can be purchased from the front office for $10. Tickets will be available for collection at the office from tomorrow. Thank you to all who came along to visit our museum last week where there was an amazing display of Ambarvale Public School over the past 40 years. Don’t forget we have our back to the 70’s dress up day this Friday and the closing of the time capsule next Friday 29 th November at 2pm. A note was previously sent home with all the details. Week 6 Supervision Before and After School - The safety of our students is extremely important to us. We have an increasing number of students who are being dropped off at school before 8.30am. Teaching staff are not on duty until 8.30am, therefore those students arriving before this time are not supervised and are still the responsibility of their parents / carers. When students arrive at school just before 8.30am, they are required to sit on the silver seats and wait calmly for the teacher to come on duty. Many students are running around which is causing some problems in the morning which sets a negative tone for the school day ahead. When students are walking to school, it is important that they are aware of road rules and the best way for them to learn these rules is for it to be modelled by a responsible adult. We also have many student riding scooters and bikes to school. It is important again that these students are aware of the road rules and they are wearing helmets to protect themselves regardless of how experienced they are at riding. In order to ride to school, students MUST WEAR A HELMET. Kindergarten 2020 - Our Kindergarten Orientations have started where we have had three sessions so far. It has been great to meet all of the boys and girls who will be a part of Ambarvale Public School next year. It has been wonderful meeting our parents and carers who have also been coming along to our orientation sessions. It has been exciting meeting new faces and chatting to the familiar faces too. We have two more Kindergarten Orientation sessions remaining, this Thursday and next Thursday. Just a reminder that if you know of a child who will be starting Kindergarten next year but has not yet enrolled, please let them know that it is important to complete the enrolment papers as soon as possible. Planning for 2020 - In order to assist the school in making arrangements for 2020 classes, it is important that we have accurate numbers. If you know that you will not be returning to Ambarvale Public School next year please notify the office ASAP. Thank you to those who have informed the school already. A reminder that if you have any particular requests or information you would like us to consider when forming classes for next year, please write it down in a short letter and hand it in to the front office. Please note that we will do our best to accommodate your request, but keep in mind that requests cannot be guaranteed. Classes for 2020 will be formed over the upcoming weeks so please make sure all requests are in ASAP. Community Feedback Meeting- Thursday 5th December - A reminder that on Thursday 5th December at 2pm, we will be having a community feedback meeting where you will have the opportunity to discuss what we have been doing around and within our school. You will have the opportunity to provide feedback to us about what you have liked and what you may have disliked. You will also be given the opportunity to make suggestions for future initiatives that you may like to see happening at Ambarvale Public School in 2020. Social Media - The world is certainly turning into a very technology based way of living. It is for this reason that it is important to be aware of what our children are accessing when using iPads, tablets, computers, phones, game consoles etc. Most Apps and games specify what age group they are suitable for. This is for a reason; a child’s brain is developing throughout childhood and things they access and view can impact the brains development and in turn have negative effects on how the child responds to various situations. Please ensure you are supervising your child/ children when using any device and be aware of who they are talking to and how they are behaving when using FaceTime and social media (where most are for children 13+). Until next time, Mrs Green

ASSEMBLY ROSTER – TERM 4

PBL Focus Week 5 and 6: Accepting Differences This fortnight students from K-6 engaged in a meaningful lesson about appreciating and accepting differences. Students recognised that they are unique based on many aspects such as: age, culture, hobbies, talents and interests. Through a range of activities and meaningful discussions, there was a strong focus on valuing differences within ourselves, our peers and other networks. 40th FIESTA TICKET COLLECTION Tickets for the 40th Fiesta-Dancing Through Time concert will be available for collection from the office this Wednesday 20th November. STAGE 3 CAMP On November 4th, Stage 3 students and teachers attended a three day experience at the Great Aussie Bush Camp in Kincumber. After a two hour bus ride, students arrived at the beautiful, natural environment of the camp. They hit the ground running and after a delicious lunch of hamburgers, students participated in their first adventurous activity. Over the course of the three days, students had a wonderful time and participated in a variety of exciting, challenging and memorable outdoor activities in an authentic Australian setting. They were lucky enough to experience the Giant Swing, the Rock Climbing Wall and amongst other great activities, their absolute favourite.... the Mud Challenge. They also had an opportunity to partake in numerous team building activities, where children were able to encourage others, challenge themselves, make new friends and develop self-confidence all whilst having fun. Well done Stage 3 on your excellent behaviour while away at this fun-filled camp!

PBL REWARD DAY PBL Reward Day is fast approaching! In order to attend this exciting event, students must: - have less than 3 incidents within the term resulting in reflection room - have no warning of suspensions - have no suspensions 40th ANNIVERSARY REUNION DINNER Last Friday night we had a get together for all Ambarvale staff both past and present. It was wonderful to see so many staff members that worked at Ambarvale PS. Some going right back to 1979. Thank you to all that came along to celebrate 40 years. It was an amazing evening. TIGER TAG GALA DAY Our teams represented Ambarvale PS with pride last week competing in our last Tiger Tag Gala Day. Our mixed team were victorious, winning every game that they played on the day and our girl’s team coming away with a win as well. A huge thank you to Mrs Manning for supplying the students with ice blocks on the day.

BRONZE, SILVER, GOLD and PLATINUM AWARD ASSEMBLY Please be aware that this term the bronze, silver, gold and platinum awards assembly will be held in Week 8 (Monday 2nd December). This is due to the Presentation day assembly being held in Week 10. If your child has 5 merit awards to hand in, please ensure this is done by the end of this week at the latest. LIBRARY CHAT Borrowing - Library borrowing will finish for most classes this week, which gives children two weeks to read their books before all books need to be returned. I will be sending overdue notes home soon, so now is a good time to check under the bed, down the back of the bookshelf or where ever else books like to hide in your house. Book Club - The last order of book club has been late in arriving, due to an issue at Scholastic. I am hoping that the books will arrive very soon. Orders for issue 8 are due on 28th November, and these should arrive in plenty of time before the end of the year. Remember that if you request gift, either on your paper order or when you order online (scholastic.com.au/LOOP), we can put the books aside for you at the office.

DONATE BOOTS & RUNNERS

Do you have an old pair of boots and/or runners you don’t wear anymore? They might be too small, too big, or even just worn out. Don’t throw them away! FSA have the perfect opportunity for you to put those old unused boots to better use! Eddie and Melanie are heading to Fiji & Vanuatu at the end of the year and would love to take over as many pairs of boots and runners as possible to donate to all ages. You will find a black tub in the office for you to drop them in which will be there until the end of term 4.

THANK YOU!!! Don’t forget about our weekly sessions and upcoming School Holiday Camps! If you would like to join a session and have fun whilst taking your skills to the next level, or if you have any questions, feel free to speak to the FSA team when you see us about or call 0488 372 666. We would like to offer all students from Ambarvale Public School a 55% discount for the term fee & Holiday Camp. PROMO CODE: 55nsw5
