Iteration #1

Iteration #1

Insight• At the first time, I thought

the wrong way so that I just made iteration #1 with only same shapes of materials. I didn’t think about any shape of the iteration.

• However, there were still some potential ideas like alignment and patterns.

Issues• The first iteration is about

creation. To create something which has 12 similar objects.

• I put lots of round things together such as coins, the top of the bottle, CD, and styrofoam sticker.

• It doesn’t have any shape of itself.

Iteration #2

Page 5: Learning Portfolio by uk

Iteration #2

Insights• Professor asked us to make

iteration #1 more 3D view and change the pattern.

• I didn’t change any patterns of iteration #1, but I made some changes by 3D view. I made round things more higher and thicker.

Issues• Iteration #2 is about

changes from iteration #1 with same materials that I used in the first one.

• Professor Jerry might want to see how we can change the things well with same materials that we have.

• Trying to improve our looking.

Iteration #3

Iteration #3

Insights• I sketch my all iterations for

the kit a parts from 3 different view point.

• Also, I draw many other imagination objects from the kit of parts.

• I made one objects based on the kit of parts. Its shape isn’t good as I thought.

Issues• Iteration #3 is about

creating totally new things by the kit of parts.

• We could see lots of possibilities from the kit of part.

• To create totally different objects from original work.

Iteration #4

Page 11: Learning Portfolio by uk

Iteration #4

Insights• Iteration #3 wasn’t good as I

thought. So, I just tried to make it more interesting. I twisted iteration #3’s exterior. Also, I wanted to make iteration #4 more smooth shaping so that I put some tapes around its edges.

Issues• Iteration #4 is about

modifying from iteration #3.• There are lots of ways to

change iteration #3 such as changing the exterior, adding some patterns, and making a hierarchy.

Iteration #5

Page 13: Learning Portfolio by uk

Iteration #5

Insights• I didn’t use any glue and tape.

The iteration #5 is only made of styrofoam.

• I made holes in the center of all parts and then put a styrofoam stick through the central axis. Also, I colored blue on the string so that it attracts more attention.

• I chose that part as my favorite because I feel comfortable with symmetry structure.

Issues• Iteration #5 is about space. • To choose one interesting

part of our iteration #4 and then magnify that part as new iteration.

• Also, we can change some pattern or design of the part that you chose.

Iteration #6

Page 15: Learning Portfolio by uk

Iteration #6

Insights• To look at iteration #6 carefully and

find out how I can make or organize more space.

• At the first try, I couldn’t satisfy on my work because it was to messy, and there wasn’t that much space in the first work.

• In second time, I tried to make lots of spaces by twisting and adding more frames. However, my second trial was too much complicate. Anyway, I think I made more space than the first.

Issues• Iteration #6 is about frame.

To make it only as a frame without surface.

• To try to make lots of spaces depend on how we move any sides of frames.

• To see how space is going to be created by twisting, removing, or adding frames on any sides.

Page 16: Learning Portfolio by uk

Iteration #7

Page 17: Learning Portfolio by uk

Iteration #7

Insight• Making surfaces are too

hard for my iteration #6 because my iteration #6’s frame was too complicate.

• Trying to put 3 different kinds of surfaces such as invisible, visible, and opaque styles.

Issues• Iteration #7 is about

surface.• To make surfaces by using

transparency.• How the surface makes

people to feel depend on transparency.

• How we can make structure more interesting by putting surface.

Nature – Precedence & Architectural Responses to

Special Two Bridges in Bay Area

Page 20: Learning Portfolio by uk

• Old Bay Bridge has similar structure to Golden Gate Bridge, but the most people say that GGB is much prettier than Old Bay Bridge. What makes GGB more prettier is response to nature such as the color and numbers of tops. The color makes Old Bay Bridge more ugly. It just colored as gray. It doesn’t match with nature. It just feels like huge iron structure on the ocean. Also, too many tops block the sight and too much complexity.

OLD BAY BRIDGE

Page 21: Learning Portfolio by uk

• New Bay Bridge is opened a few months ago. It looks much nicer than Old one because more curve shape, only one tower with crossing wires on the tower, white surface color, and standing lights. New Bridge has much simple design with comfortable sight view. Also, when I look at the New Bay Bridge from the top of the mountain, it feels like the wave in ocean.

NEW BAY BRIDGE

GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE

GGB is the best bridge ever. This bridge is exactly symmetry structure with simple design. It also looks like harp because the cables are all connected with thicker main cable. GGB is perfectly match with nature and other view in San Francisco bay. Even though there are lots of foggy in SF bay, it makes GGB more special than the others. It’s colored as red. Color also nice specially during night time.

Page 23: Learning Portfolio by uk

• What GGB and New Bay Bridge make pretty is simplicity, smooth curve, details on bridge towers and cable structure.

• Also, symmetry structure and well organized cable give people more safety feeling for taking the bridges because of the potential earthquakes.

• Architectural response to nature is also very important for design. It is really hard to choose color, material, shapes, and hierarchy. It might give us really different feelings depend on how a architect organize them together.

Conclusion
