Put Knowledge to Work
Students in the computer science
program plan, design, build, and
manage real production networks.
Law enforcement technology students
actively practice investigation
techniques, firearms training, and
patrol procedures. Healthcare students
get extensive training with patient
simulators. This is how it is in all of our
programs. We believe in action. So do

Since summer of 2015 alone, we’ve
undertaken nearly a half dozen major
new construction and renovation
projects for programs ranging from
transportation technology to practical
nursing to pharmacy technician to HVAC.

The academic experience at Western

Powerful Equipment and Tools
Here, you’ll find the same equipment
and tools you’ll use in the professional
world. Students in our computer-aided
drafting program use GPS and GIS
technology. We provide state-of-the-art
machining labs. And students in our
transportation technology program get
experience working on hybrid vehicles.
Cutting-Edge Facilities
Our 31,000-square-foot Transportation
Technology Lab offers every resource
students in that program need to
sharpen their skills. The Medical
Simulation Lab features high-fidelity,
responsive patient simulators to give
students the most realistic training
experiences. Our new 15,000-square-
foot Public Safety Building provides an
ideal setting for law enforcement and
fire science students to learn and work
under one roof.
Programs in High-Growth Fields
The programs we offer represent some
of the fastest growing professional fields
and industries. That’s why we offer them.

You’ll find our students consistently succeeding at the South Dakota
Skills USA competition, where they go head-to-head with other
students from around the state.
Our campus features a $500,000 fire training building where students

Faculty Interaction
We intentionally keep our classes small
so students get as much individualized
attention from faculty as they need. Many
schools out there can’t say that. The
success of our students is our top priority,
so ensuring you have all the academic and
personal support you need by keeping
classes small is worth it.

We recently expanded and renovated our
Commons area and kitchen, making an
already comfortable, student-oriented space
for relaxing and getting together with friends
even better.
Our new 450-seat event center offers more
than 13,000 square feet of space for large
gatherings, events, conferences, regional
training opportunities, and community
events.

Scholarships and Financial Aid
Our students receive more than $8 million
in scholarships and financial aid, and our
caring and supportive financial aid staff will
guide you through the financial aid process
from start to finish.
Dual Enrollment
Through our dual enrollment program, you
can take classes at a reduced rate (or at no
cost to Rapid City Area Schools students) to
get an early start on your journey.
