This chart was originally preparedfor class use in teaching theoreticalmetaphysics. Its objective feature isthe presentation in relative position,of words in common use expressiveof the Elements and Attributes ofBeing, both real and assumed, and ofthe various phases of Life activities,in suitable form to convey to inquir-ing minds the idea described by theroot meaning of each word, as wellas to express its true relation to eachother idea.

The first edition was so well receivedby those engaged in metaphysicalresearch that, in revising for a secondedition, it has been thought best toadd a partial explanation suggestiveof the variety of ways in which it canbe used to develop thought. This iscalculated to render clear the concep-tion of many metaphysical principlesand truisms, which in ordinary use ofthe English language remain obscure,as well as to clear away erroneousopinions in regard to life principles,which act as obstructions to the fullenjoyment of health, thus renderingthe chart of service to metaphysicalstudents of all schools.The chart itself can only contain

essential words relatively placed, to

lead the student in his own thoughtaction from one idea to another,leaving him with a clear comprehen-sion of the relation existing betweenthe ideas examined. The explanationgiven in this edition will help tofamiliarize the student with the gen-eral plan, which is all that has beenattempted in the present work. Fulldetailed explanation of the possibleuses of this chart, with elucidation ofall the problems involved, would filla volume much too large for im-mediate publication. The manuscriptof such a work is now in preparationand will be published in due courseof time.

The idea resting back of eachword is explained singly and in itsassociation with each other idea, bring-ing to light its own office and objectin the construction and continuance ofthe Universe on each and every planeof consciousnessphysical, mental andspiritual.As a help to immediate realization of

principles for practical use in the act oftreating patients, it is believed to haveno equal in any printed publication.

In its present form it is designed tobe a valuable acquisition to every col-lection of Metaphysical literature, and

of inestimable value to every studentin similar lines, as well as a readyhelp to all who in any way practicemental healing.

For shortcomings, which seem in-evitable under the present degreeof illumination, the author asks thereader's kind indulgence. In futurerevisions every effort will be made tokeep pace with the growth of knowl-edge, in clearer understanding of prin-ciples which in their breadth cover theentire field of human knowledge.

A METAPHYSICAL CHART.EXPLANATION.

BEING is the subject which thischart is written to elucidate.

Being is the One conscious realityof the Universe^The word Universe is here used in

its broadest possible sense, extendingto the spiritual or living, and includ-ing all actual reality.

For examination the subject is di-vided into two parts, each of whichholds an important position in man'sunderstanding of the problem of lifeeach possesses characteristics and

passing from view, it being in fact insome decree different in the consciousrecognition of every observer. Thissuggests that it may be more theresult of personal consciousness thana state of actual independent reality.

Part First, therefore, representsBeingthat which is ; while PartSecond represents Seeming thatwhich appears or seems to be, butsince it is always changing it never isstrictly what it seems to be.To learn the nature of and differ-

ence between Being and Seeming,what each part of Being is and whatposition it really occupies in thesphere of living activity, is the objectof metaphysical investigation and thepurpose for which this chart is written.

The body of the chart is drawn infour divisions, viz.: Divisions A, B, Cand D, and in Sixty Sections, num-bered respectively i to 60.

Each Division, therefore, is in sixtySections, each of which is a worddescriptive of such part of Being asis represented by that Division.Each of the first thirty-two Sections

also has four Divisions, each word ofwhich bears direct relation, either realor seeming, to all of the others. InSection 33 and succeeding Sections,Divisions A and B unite in one part,explained by one word which de-scribes the quality or character ofeach and of both combined.

Divisions A and B constitute PartFirst of the chart : BeingReality.

Divisions C and D constitute PartSecond of the chart : SeemingAp-pearance.

That which seems to be, inevitablyseems to be real', that is what theSeeming isa seeming reality. If itseemed to be a Seeming it would notcontinue to appear, but would disap-pear and vanish as any illusion whenthe truth about it is discovered ;therefore, Seeming Being requires themost careful investigation possible togive, in order to learn the absolutetruth about it ; even more so than thereal, because man's intuitive naturemakes it quite easy for him to takethe Real on faith, as it were, whilestill clinging to the illusions of theSeeming, thereby confounding his

entire explanation of the One EssentialBeing, which is the fundamental sub-ject of Metaphysics, as of all science.

EXAMPLE.Division A, Section i : God,realBeing ; read to Section 2, and we have

the statement God is Spirit.Sections 2 and 3: Spirit is Creator.Sections 1 to 3 inclusive: God,

Spirit, is the Creator ; all are real.Sections 1 to 4 inclusive : God, the

spiritual Creator, is Mind ; Infinitemind. 1 to 5 inclusive : God, theone spiritual creative Mind, is Cause ;the one infinite Cause of all that is.God [1], Infinite Mind [4], the one

Spiritual [2] Cause [5] is Principle[6] ; the one fundamental principle ofBeing. The all of living reality.
