The University of Western Australia (UWA) Sports Leadership Week is an immersive outdoor recreation experience that provides valuable leadership opportunities to students. The program is open to all UWA students, with current year 12 students encouraged to apply! The next Leadership Week program will be held from 10-14 February 2014, prior to the start of semester 1 at UWA enabling students to kick start their studies with new friends and feeling confidence about their leadership potential. What will participants get to do?Leadership Week is a program where participants work with fellow students and expert instructors to increase their skillsets in a variety of outdoor activities to create pathways for further development as leaders in the outdoor industry.

Each day of the Leadership Week program will be different! Some of the activities will include:• Mountain biking in the

Perth hills• Paddling on the waters of

Matilda Bay (Swan River)• Vertical challenges such

as abseiling and rock climbing in the Perth hills

• Trekking on the world renowned Bibbulmun Track with knowledgable guidance from the Bibbulmun Track Foundation

• Sailing on the Swan River in Foundation 36 yachts

What do participants gain?

“I learnt a lot about the leadership qualities that I have and the skills I need to work on and a lot about my communication skills and motivation in terms of motivating others.” - Alana Kildea

Participants will experience new activities, develop their ledership skills and confidence, learn about motivation and make new friends along the way!

“I now have a greater understanding of other people - learning about other people’s lifestyles and being able to connect with people who are outside your normal friendship group.” - Alana Kildea

Following Leadership Week, participants have access to outdoor instructor courses and qualifications, and the oppotunity to join UWA Sports’ outdoor development squads and Recreate® courses as leaders and assistants during semester. These activities culminate in trips and tours during university break periods.

Who can apply?Leadership Week is open to all year 12 and existing UWA students. If you are considering studying at UWA in 2014, then we strongly encourage you to apply!
