• Capacity to understand right from wrong

• Behaviour based on the values you believe to be right

Seven main points that build someone’s moral intelligence

Spiritual intelligence (SQ)

• Term used by some philosophers, psychologists and developmental theorists to indicate spiritual parallels with IQ & EQ

• Variations of SQ are sometimes used in corporate settings as means to motivate employees and providing a non-religious diversity sensitive framework for addressing issues of values in the workplace

• According to Stephan Covey ”SQ is the central and most fundamental of all the intelligences, because it becomes the source of guidance for the others”

• It’s our ability to live according to values that give a meaningful purpose to what we do other than just self-interest

Emotional intelligence (EQ)

EQ is the ability to identify and manage your own emotions and the emotions of others.

It is generally said to include 4 skills:

1. Self Awareness

2. Self Leadership

3. Relationship Management

4. Social Awareness

should have

• Ability to manage your own emotions and relationships with others

• Driver behind teamwork

Integrity • Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral

uprightness

• It is generally a personal choice to uphold oneself to consistent moral and ethical standards

• It is know to be the most important characteristic of a leader

• True leadership begins within the person's character

Humility • Seen as the act or posture of lowering oneself in relation to others

or conversely, having a clear perspective and respect for one’s place in context

• Know who you are, where you were and what you have achieved

• Prioritize the needs of others above your own

• This does not mean you think less of yourself, but less about yourself

• Nelson Mandela is a good example

Character

• Evaluation of a particular individual’s stable moral qualities

• Can imply a variety of attributes including the existence or lack of virtues such as empathy, courage, fortitude, honesty and loyalty, or good behaviour

• Qualities that distinguish one individual from another

Discipline • Self control

• Best course of actions

• Spiritual discipline helps leaders to remain faithful to their principles

• Emotional discipline leads to restraint and the ability to lead with calmness and clarity

• Intellectual discipline ensures logical structured thinking and analysis

Positive Attitude

• You control your attitude

• Create a “library” of positive thoughts

• Avoid anger or negative media / thoughts

• Use more positive vocabulary

• Strategic thinking is defined as a mental or thinking process applied by an individual in the context of achieving success in a game or other endeavour. As a cognitive activity it produces thoughts.

• It can be done individually as well as collaboratively among key people who can positively alter an organization’s future

• To communicate effectively, one must learn to listen properly
