Forum Update

SpeakersUnfortunately John Allison had to cancel his speaking engagement for the Forum. We are very pleased that Dan Mitchell, also with the CATO Institute, will be speaking in John’s place.

“America’s Future Greek-Style Fiscal Meltdown – and How to Prevent It”

Daniel J. Mitchell is a top expert on tax reform and supply-side tax policy. Prior to joining CATO Institute he was a senior fellow with The Heritage Foundation, and an economist for Senator Bob Packwood and the Senate Finance Committee. Mitchell also served on the 1988 Bush/Quayle transition team and was Director of Tax and Budget Policy for Citizens for a Sound Economy. His articles can be found in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Investor’s Business Daily, and Washington Times. He is a frequent guest on radio and television and a popular speaker.

Mostly because of demographic changes and poorly designed entitlement programs, the burden of government spending will dramatically increase over the next couple of decades. Much as has been the case in Europe, this will lead to crippling tax increases and rising levels of indebtedness – and eventually to a scal crisis. But this result is not cast in stone, according to Mitchell. He will address how reasonable reforms today can easily avert this future meltdown and put the United States on a path to economic rejuvenation.
