NEWS FOR FAMILIES

Iowa-Lafayette county camp will be June 11-12, 2020 at

Bethel Horizons outside Dodgeville.

Any high schooler who is interested in being a Camp Counselor -

there will be a training on Monday, December 30 at 10:00am -

12:00 noon in Lafayette County. If you are interested, please contact

the Extension Office to request an application. Applications are due

by December 15th.

CONGRATULATIONS CARCASS CHAMPIONS

Feeding and caring for an animal to produce a

quality carcass is an important part of the

learning involved in the livestock projects for

sheep, swine and beef members. Thanks to Jeff

Thomas and Dennis Patterson for organizing,

judging and compiling the results. Champion and

Reserve Champion Carcass were produced by

these exhibitors:

Beef – Laci Lindsey and Riley Sennhenn

Lamb – Piper Garthwaite and Skylar Garthwaite

Hello! Are you interested in photography? Would you like to learn more about what makes an

eye-catching photography? Or perhaps you would like to just go more places to take different

pictures. Come join as we further explore photography. There is an informational meeting on Sunday

October 27th at 3pm in the HHS building. We will then meet every other week. Our sessions will consist of

lessons on different concepts, reviewing/judging prior pictures, and time to practice those concepts. Our

meeting locations will vary between parks, playgrounds, or conference rooms to name a few.

Information for Club Leaders

The Leader’s Association is again selling t-shirts and

sweatshirts for a fundraiser. The orders are placed online at

https://uwextensioniowaco19.itemorder.com

Orders are due by November 17 and will be available for pick

up at the Extension Office in time for Christmas!

The following clubs are asked to provide a silent auction basket worth at least $50 at the 4-H Awards Day on Sunday, November 10th at 1:00 pm. Baskets can be brought to the Extension Office any time the week prior to the event. Bloomfield Buddies, Cobb Busy Badgers, Country Cardinals, Five Point, Kountry Kousins, Mounds View, Pleasant View, Red Barn, and Section Line. The money raised is used to fund 4-H programs, camp, trips, and project support. We appreciate you support!

Re-Enrollment Information

IT’S 4-H RE-ENROLLMENT TIME!

Online re-enrollment will be the same as in the past years. https://wi.4honline.com

√ Youth in 3rd

grade this year are full 4-H members and are able to choose from any of the

projects listed. Youth in K-2nd

grade can choose from Cloverbud 1, Cloverbud 2 or

Cloverbud 3.

√ Current members must re-enroll by December 1 to be eligible for trips, county fair,

camp and other 4-H events and activities. New members can join anytime, however

if you want to exhibit at the 2020 fair, you must be enrolled by April 1.

√ The enrollment fee must be paid to your 4-H leader when you re-enroll. The fee is $10

per youth member, or $30 for a family of three or more. Please make checks

payable to: Iowa County 4-H.

√ If you are interested in being a 4-H volunteer leader, enroll online and plan to attend a

volunteer orientation program. See below for next program.

√ If you have any questions, please contact Muffy or Sarah at 930-9850.

along a friend who is new to 4-H!)

Make your contribution by volunteering! JOIN 4-H – Even as an adult!

Volunteers play a vital role in the ongoing growth and development of youth in the 4-H Youth Development program. Some roles include:

Work with adults and youth to lead 4-H clubs, activities and events

Help plan and conduct events

Develop and evaluate 4-H Youth Development programs

Contribute through promoting and supporting 4-H

Lead workshops to share knowledge with young people

Chaperone field trips and leadership conferences

How to Volunteer Volunteering is a privilege. All that’s needed is a desire to provide quality educational programs and experiences with youth. For more information, contact Sarah Weier at the Iowa County UW-Extension Office at 608-930-9850.

The next volunteer orientation in Iowa County will be held on Monday, November 4th at 6:00 pm in the HHS Building . Please call or email Muffy to register at 930-9850 or [email protected] or the session might be cancelled.

4-H Club Charters: All 4-H clubs and chartered groups must annually complete a

4-H Charter in order to remain in good standing. The 4-H year runs from October 1-

September 30 and the fiscal year runs from July 1 - June 30. Charter applications are due

November 1st.

4-H Town Hall

Connect with 4-H Leaders across the state in our inaugural Town Hall Meeting on

Tuesday, October 29 from 7 to 8 pm. Learn about 4-H efforts to refocus on youth, updates

with Extension & 4-H reorganization with UW-Madison and meeting the new state 4-H

program mangers. Enrolled leaders should have received an e-mail for information to

Ambassador Meeting in November

The next meeting of the Ambassadors will be November 10th at 11:30 am at the HHS Building

in Dodgeville. The annual 4-H Awards Day begins at 1:00 pm so we will have a short but

productive meeting including reading through the program for the day, set-up of the room and

discussion of winter activities – maybe a weekend retreat and a community service project.

Please let the Extension office know by November 1st if you can attend to plan for lunch. Bring

your own beverage. (There is a pop/water machine in the building).
