STUDENT DEVELOPMENT
Describe how you will support the Work Scholar{s) on the job. We will provide training in our box office. We
will also assist in any training our Work Scholar might require and do our best to accommodate school
schedules. We would work hard to make sure the work scholar understood our ticketing application and was
trained appropriately. We would also assist in the management of our volunteer base.
Describe how you will integrate the Work Scholar within your business/department. How do you plan to
familiarize them to your business/department and employees? The Lewiston Civic Theatre is the type of
business that requires flexibility on the part of the staff. There are only two employees currently and we
would make every effort to support the Work Scholar. Because there are a variety of projects at the theatre, I
feel that the training would be ongoing. We can schedule training managing our social media and marketing
and how to handle the volunteers who are helping us throughout the season. We consider ourselves
"nimble" and flexibility would be important in this position. We would be able to provide some stability as far
as scheduling goes. Our box office will have set hours of operation, and someone will be there if questions
arise.
Describe how you will prevent and/or resolve problems that may occur on the job?
We will try to communicate our expectations clearly and ask for clear communication by the Work Scholar as
well. We will ask the Work Scholar to let us know if they have any questions or concerns about the work, we
are asking them to do. We will do our best to resolve any issues that might arise.
How will you establish professional protocol for your office with your Work Scholar? Our expectation is that
the Work Scholar represent the Theatre well. We ask that they maintain a professional attitude and
demeanor when working with the public. The person at the front desk is the face of the theatre and we would
support our Work Scholar in their efforts to become our best representative.
Describe the training and support your office will provide to Work Scholars. We would provide training on our
ticketing system, Arts People, and systems like Mail Chimp. We could also train the Work Scholar to help us
maintain our social media pages such as Facebook, lnstagram, and YouTube.
What advancement opportunities could a Work Scholar have during their tenure of service? There are always
opportunities to continue as our box office person. Advancement is dependent on funding at our non-profit
but there are possibilities for creation of new positions such as volunteer coordinator on our team.
If resources allow what conferences and/or professional development opportunities will your Work Scholar
attend? We could provide access to training with the Nonprofit Leadership Lab. This is training in grant
writing, volunteer development and Board development. If there are other opportunities such as working
with the Small Business Administration, we could work towards offering development opportunities there as
well.
Describe your department's capacity to provide supervision of the Work Scholar including monthly
evaluations, supervisor orientation and training, and helping student work toward meeting learning
objectives. Because our staff is so small there would be constant supervision. The Executive Director would
be available to answer questions or find the answers to any questions the Work Scholar might have about the
operation of the theatre. The ED would also be available to offer monthly evaluations if necessary. There
would be opportunities to work with members of our Board of Directors as well.
