The Kids Teaching Kids day hosted here at school saw nearly 100 students from schools across the central west come and learn from their peers about aspects of the agricultural industry. It highlighted how much the weather has changed as it explored the impact of drought on rural communities, emphasising the partnership with the Local Land Services. This year, our students shared their learning about the cotton industry, the research they completed for the Archibull project. The junior girls league tag day hosted by the Country Rugby League held at Lawson Park last week saw teams of primary and secondary girls play a series of games. Our teams enjoyed the day, with varying results, but they were all smiling after a glorious day of weather and sporting activity.

Great learning has continued over the last week.

The Kids Teaching Kids day hosted here at school saw nearly 100 students from schools across the central west come and learn from their peers about aspects of the agricultural industry. The day started with our students presenting their performance from last year’s conference in Melbourne. It highlighted how much the weather has changed as it explored the impact of drought on rural communities, emphasising the partnership with the Local Land Services. Year 6 Orientation Day.

WRAS Megan Callinan ScholarshipZoe Gavin, student at The Henry Lawson High School, has again recently been offered a Megan Callinan Scholarship with the Western Region Academy of Sport (WRAS) for 2017. These scholarships have been set up to ensure that promising young athletes from small towns in the western region have the opportunity to achieve their sporting goals.

Zoe is an accomplished track and field distance runner and was again offered the scholarship to assist her in achieving her representative goals. Zoe was awarded this scholarship in 2016 and worked on a regular basis with WRAS strength and conditioning assistant, Darcie Morrison from Forbes. Darcie trained Zoe in strength and conditioning as well as monitoring her recovery to ensure good balanced training. Zoe has made big gains in strength and this has shown in her results so far this year, not only in her athletics but also in her league tag endeavors, being part of both the Girlanna and Junior League Tag winning grand final teams.

This year she has achieved some outstanding athletic results as well breaking school carnival records, placing 1st in CHS Western Cross Country, also 1st in 400m, 800m & 1500m events at CHS Western Region Athletics and top 10 finishes in all events at state carnivals.

For 2017, former Henry Lawson student and CSU intern Alex Carney has been appointed to oversee Zoe’s sessions and continue training and mentoring her.

Zoe has also been invited to visit other academies within NSW for their track and field sessions and this will give her access to high quality coaching and mentoring. Zoe will compete in the upcoming Little Athletics Zone Championships to be held in Bathurst on 12 and 13 November in the 400m, 800m and 1500m events. Good luck Zoe.

Well-being Corner “One thing you can’t recycle is wasted time.” Anonymous

Time’s a-wasting; the clock is ticking; the hours are slipping away; there’s no time like the present. Have you

made time for something you really want to do? Don’t put it off any longer. As Benjamin Franklin once said,

“Lost time is never found again”.

TODAYI’ll make time for something special.

Welcome back to term 4 as we are drawing to a close in what has been a busy year for your P&C.

Towards the end of last term our school and P&C participated in a state wide trial for the P&C Federation of NSW and Australian School Plus in a video conference workshop. This is a first of what is hoped will be many, in bridging the gap between rural and remote NSW offering opportunities to schools and P&C’s. The P&C would like to thank Ms Carey for allowing us the opportunity to participate using the schools facilities.

During the holidays Carly Brown (President) and Helen Carpenter (Secretary) represented the P&C and school at the sesquicentennial day of celebrations in Taylor Park where they sold the P&C postcards designed by students and the publication Portraits of Grenfell by the Year 9 & 10 photography students. The day was a great day and we sold all the publications for the photography students.

This week our President Carly Brown welcomed and addressed the parents of the new Year 7 students, inviting them to come along and join the P&C and or volunteer in our canteen.

The P&C would also like to re-invite all parents and caregivers to be a part of the P&C and support our students by volunteering in the canteen or attending meetings and helping out with fundraisers. All funds raised are used to support our children with excursions and resources for the school.

Our second last meeting for 2016 is this coming Tuesday night 1 November at 7pm in the school library.

Our annual thank you and P&C Christmas dinner will be held on Thursday 10 November 6.30pm for 7pm at the Railway Hotel.

RSVP to Helen 0428542708 or [email protected].
