Biographical Information

Laura Baxter is a British jeweller and metalsmith. She was born and raised in the countryside of the Lincolnshire Wolds. She now lives and works from a studio in Clumber Park, the beautiful National Trust Estate in rural Nottinghamshire. Laura graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1996 having studied BA (Hons) Three Dimensional Design. Her work is collected and exhibited worldwide in galleries and craft shops in the UK, USA and Japan. Some recent UK notable exhibitions include ‘Bees’ (2010), curated by Wendy Ramshaw at Contemporary Applied Arts, London, ‘Cultivate’ (2011), Bluecoat Display Centre and ‘Silhouettes ofNature’ a solo show at The Open Eye Gallery, Edinburgh (2009). Laura also has exhibited her work at COLLECT, London and SOFA Chicago, USA.

“I collect, draw and photograph natural forms which prompt me to think about construction, shape and texture in different metals. A personal relationship with nature is central to my life and work. The pieces I create cast wonderful shadows. I am inspired by the notion that my jewellery can function equally on or off the body, as wearable pieces of sculpture.”
