Who and how?

• Initial discussions between ASE Safeguards in Science Committee and ASE Primary Science Committee

• Review of non-UK editions for ideas• Writing weekend involving safety experts and

primary science practitioners from across the UK, sponsored by CLEAPSS & SSERC

Page 13: Launch of 4 th edition ASE Annual Conference, Reading University, January 2011

… and then?

• A conscious attempt to avoid educational language which was specific to different parts of the UK

• Three successive drafts, seen by a wider group including all members of ASE Safeguards in Science Committee, ASE Primary Science Committee and Primary Science Editorial Board and others

Page 14: Launch of 4 th edition ASE Annual Conference, Reading University, January 2011

... and it went on

• Of course, many of the comments were mutually incompatible

• Drafts sent to government education departments across the UK and to the HSE

• An election in the middle of this process did not help!
