Scholarships
Launceston Grammar has offered scholarships since its inception in 1846. The continuing purpose of our scholarship programme is to encourage students with strong academic ability or talents in co-curricular activities to enter the School. The range of scholarships offered has enabled many students to successfully complete their education and proceed to university or further studies.

An Academic scholarship is awarded on the basis of performance in an annual examination held in first term and is offered to students entering Grades 5 - 12. Awards vary from 15 - 50% rebate of tuition fee in value based on academic achievement. The progress of scholarship awardees is reviewed annually.
It is a requirement that a scholarship be accepted for the year offered.
Examinations:For students entering Grades 5 and 6 – Papers test Mathematics, Written Expression and Reading and Viewing.
For students entering Grades 7 - 12 – Papers test Written Expression, Humanities - Comprehension and Interpretation, Mathematics and Science.

Performing and Visual Arts Scholarships
Performing Arts (Music) ScholarshipLaunceston Grammar has a large and diverse Music Department, which ensures that student musicians have a rich performance experience to complement the classroom programme.
The school aims to assist students in Grades 5 - 12 to maximise their music education by offering Music Scholarships to students who demonstrate a high level of musicianship.
Awards will vary in value based on musical proficiency.
Successful applicants are required to maintain a high level of application to Music and make a full contribution to the co-curricular Music activities. It is a requirement that students include Music as an elective subject in Grades 8 - 10, and in either Grade 11 or 12.
Selection Process:Applicants are required to provide a USB or disc of a video recording of a performance. Students who do not currently attend Launceston Grammar should
include a reference from at least one music teacher. Applicants who are short-listed will be invited to attend an audition.
Music auditions will take place in the Henrietta Cooper Music School at the Senior Campus. As a guide, the School has set minimum levels of previous achievements on AMEB or Trinity College examinations, or equivalent, for audition. These are as follows:

Andrew Gordon Music ScholarshipA generous donation made by the late Mr Andrew Gordon has enabled the prestigious Andrew Gordon Music Scholarship to be established. Through this Fund, educational opportunities are open to students for entry to Grades 11 or 12. It is a requirement that students include Music as an elective subject in Grade 11 or 12.

Poimena Visual Arts ScholarshipThe Poimena Visual Arts Scholarship provides the opportunity for students to attend Launceston Grammar in order to pursue their artistic talents in the Visual Arts, Photography, Painting, Film Making, Media Art and Sculpture at The Poimena Art School.
The scholarship is offered to students entering Grades 7 - 12 and awards will vary in value based on the student’s level of proficiency.
Applicants are assessed on a folio of their work which is to be submitted on a USB. Students who do not currently attend Launceston Grammar are to include a reference with their scholarship application.
Successful applicants are required to include a Visual Arts subject/s as an elective in Grades 8 - 10 and in either Grade 11 or 12.

Alumni Scholarships
Old Launcestonians’ Association ScholarshipThe Old Launcestonians’ Association Scholarship may be up to the value of 50% rebate of tuition fees and is awarded to a student entering Grade 11. Applications for this Scholarship are invited from Grade 10 students whose parent(s), grandparent(s) or near relatives are alumni of the Launceston Church Grammar School or Broadland House Church of England Girls’ Grammar School.
The selection procedures will involve consideration of past achievements of applicants in their studies, other areas of school life and contribution to the community. Students who do not currently attend Launceston Grammar are to include two references with their scholarship application.

Named Scholarships
Brock ScholarshipThis prestigious scholarship honours the lives of the Brock brothers, Jim and Joe, killed in action in 1943 over the North Sea.
The Brock Scholarship is awarded to a student entering Grade 11.
Consideration will be given to the achievements of applicants in their studies and other areas of school life.
Students who do not currently attend Launceston
Grammar are to include two references with their scholarship application.

Christopher ‘Gus’ Green ScholarshipThe Christopher ‘Gus’ Green Scholarship is awarded to a new student for entry into Grade 4 or Grade 5 until the conclusion of Grade 6.
This Scholarship is for a student who otherwise would not be able to afford entry to the School. The student applying must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia.
Applicants are required to include a reference with their scholarship application.

Frederick Fairthorne ScholarshipThis scholarship was established in response to a generous bequest of the estate of esteemed Old Launcestonian, the late Frederick Fairthorne.
Applicants are assessed according to their potential, as well as their past and current achievements in academic and co-curricular endeavours.
Students who do not currently attend Launceston Grammar are to include two references with their scholarship application.

Gordon Hughes ScholarshipThe Gordon Hughes Scholarship provides educational opportunities for a student to study at Launceston Grammar for entry into Grade 10 or 11. This Scholarship is awarded to a student who shows evidence of proven academic ability and all round skills and who would contribute to the co-curricular life of the School.
This scholarship is offered, in the first instance, to students not currently enrolled at Launceston Grammar. In the case where no suitable applications are received from a new enrolment, applications from current students will be considered.
Students who do not currently attend Launceston Grammar are to include two references with their scholarship application.
This Scholarship offers a rebate of tuition fees and will continue until the student completes Grade 12.

M.L. Rooney and H.V. Jones Scholarship FundBequests to the Grammar Fund have enabled the establishment of the M.L. Rooney and H.V. Jones Scholarship Fund.
The applicants of the Scholarship will be assessed on their past achievements and contribution to their school and wider community.
The financial means of the family will be a criteria for the award. A confidential Financial Information Form will be required to be completed.
Applicants are required to include two references with their scholarship application.

G. L. Stubs Educational TrustThrough a generous bequest from the Stubs family the G.L. Stubs Educational Trust was established. The G.L. Stubs Educational Trust has been established for the purpose of advancing the educational opportunities of students entering Grades 7 – 12 who would like to attend Launceston Grammar and whose financial circumstances do not enable them to do so.
The Stubs family have a longstanding connection with the Grammar School. Geoffrey Lewis Stubs attended Launceston Grammar from 1935 – 1938. Geoffrey was a scholarship holder and held the Williatt – Moore Scholarship and Thomas Fall Scholarship. Florence Lilian Stubs, Geoffrey’s aunt, was the Headmistress of Grammar Prep School from 1946 – 1954.
The financial means of the family will be a criteria for the support. A confidential Financial Information Form is required to be completed. Applicants are required to include two references with their scholarship application.
This Scholarship will be advertised as funds become available.

John S. Barnett ScholarshipThe John S. Barnett Scholarship is awarded to a student entering Grade 11 who demonstrates outstanding success at school as an all-rounder and who is a committed church member.
The Scholarship will provide a rebate of tuition fees for two years. Applicants for this scholarship must provide two references, including one reference from a church leader.
This scholarship is offered, in the first instance, to students not currently enrolled at Launceston Grammar.
In the case where no suitable applications are received from a new enrolment, applications from current students will be considered.

Neale Henry Edwards ScholarshipThe Neale Henry Edwards Scholarship provides a 50% rebate of tuition fees to be awarded to two new students; one boy and one girl for entry into Grade 7 until the conclusion of Grade 10. W.E. Lawrence Memorial Scholarship The W.E. Lawrence Memorial Scholarship is awarded every two years to a student entering Grade 11 who demonstrates outstanding success in their studies, other areas of school life and contribution to the community.

Boarding Scholarships
Regional Boarding ScholarshipThe School has established regional scholarships to assist boarding students.
Scholarships are available to students from the following areas: Northern Midlands / East Coast / North West Coast / West Coast / Flinders Island / King Island / Southern Tasmania.
Assistance is offered to students currently not attending the School who will be entering Grades 5 - 12.
The selection procedure will involve consideration of the past achievements of applicants in their studies, other areas of school life and contribution to the community.

Sheila Atkinson Perpetual Scholarship (Boarding)Following a generous gift from the late Miss Sheila Atkinson the School is delighted to offer a boarding scholarship for Grade 11 entry. This educational opportunity is open for both current students of the School and for students not currently attending Grammar.

International Boarding ScholarshipThe International Boarding Scholarship is offered for entry to Grades 7 - 11 each year. The Scholarship will carry a rebate of tuition fees, which will be determined by the scholarship awarding committee. Applicants will be assessed on the basis of school reports, references and an interview. A high level of literacy in English is required.

All-rounder ScholarshipBequests to the school have enabled Launceston Grammar to offer All-rounder Scholarships to students who demonstrate potential across the full range of school activities. This Scholarship is available for new and current students who are entering Grades 5 - 12.
The selection procedures will involve consideration of the past achievements of applicants in their studies, other areas of school life and contribution to the community. Students who do not currently attend Launceston Grammar are to include two references with their scholarship application.
The scholarship will be reviewed after two years and will continue subject to satisfactory progress.

Humanitarian Migrant ScholarshipThe Humanitarian Migrant Scholarship will be awarded to a new student for entry into Grades 5 – 12 who is a humanitarian migrant. The student must have entered Australia as a refugee, must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia and must demonstrate intent to commit to study.
Applicants are required to include two references with their scholarship application.

Indigenous ScholarshipThe Indigenous Scholarship provides the opportunity for indigenous students to attend Launceston Grammar. This scholarship is offered for admission to the school in Grades 5 - 12 to students whose families demonstrate a strong commitment to education.
