HELP FOR SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN WHO
STUTTER CAPITAL DISTRICT - Stutter-ing is a frustrating and em-barrassing problem for mil-lions of people, but it can be especially tough on elemen-tary school-age children. Help is available for parents, teachers, and speech-lan-guage pathologists at most public libraries in the form of a DVD designed to help school-age children who stutter. Some libraries have an older video version. The DVD features students from first through sixth grade, some of whom talk about their experiences with stut-tering. They talk openly about the teasing they face from classmates and how their stuttering sometimes makes them feel about themselves. The 38-minute DVD, entitled Therapy in Ac-tion: The School-age Child Who Stutters, produced by the 67-year-old nonprofit Stuttering Foundation is available free of charge to public libraries nationwide. Other libraries that will shelve it can contact the Foundation at 1-800-992-9392, e-mail [email protected], or visit www.stutteringhelp.org or www.tartarmudez.org.

Biosolids are an organic amendment available to garden-ers. According to the United States Environmental Protec-tion Agency, biosolids are carefully treated and monitored residuals formed at sewage treatment facilities. They may be recycled into fertilizers to stimulate plant growth. Biosol-ids may help reduce the need for chemical fertilizers. Bio-solids can be safe to use, but homeowners should be cau-tious about heavy metal content, pathogen levels and salts. Rely on only Class A biosolids, which have been treated to reduce the bacterial content and are approved for use in production agriculture. Home gardeners may want to avoid biosolids in vegetable gardens because of the potential for heavy metal content seeping into the produce.

Damage to a lawn may be in-dicative of various problems. Everything from insects to rodents to the family pet may be responsible for caus-ing burnt patches, holes and other eyesores. Getting to the bottom of the problem is the first step in remediation. Burning and discoloration of the lawn is often a result of
high concentrations of dog urine pooling in one area. Diluting the urine by hos-ing down areas of the lawn can clear up many problems. Birds, raccoons, skunks, moles, and other rodents may feed on grubs that re-side just under the thatch of the lawn, and animals may tear up lawns in search of this delicacy. Treating the grub problem usually al-
DID YOU KNOW?leviates damage caused by animals. Mole crickets are another common lawn de-stroyer. These insects resem-ble crickets, but they burrow beneath the turf to feed on plant roots. The mole crick-ets can push up channels of turf as they burrow, expos-ing roots to the elements
and causing the grass to die. Getting rid of the insects can revitalize the lawn.
Homeowners looking for a rus-tic or weathered look for their flooring often rely on terracot-ta tile, a durable and versatile material that many feel gives a home a warm and earthy feel. Terracotta tile comes in various finishes and has proven resis-
tant to the growth of mold and bacteria. However, because it is very porous, terracotta tile absorbs moisture quickly, which means it must be sealed somewhat regularly to prevent cracking, discoloration and staining. It also must be sealed
especially well when installed in a kitchen, as terracotta floor tiles are susceptible to damage from acids, alcohol, oils, and vinegar. Installation of terra-cotta flooring is labor intensive and is therefore best left to pro-fessionals.

Over 30 Years Experience Feng shui is the practice of arranging a home or of-fice environment so energy flows gently and smoothly throughout the building. Many homeowners adhere to elements of feng shui, the origins of which date back several thousand years, in an attempt to create a positive environment that is free of stress. The basis for feng shui is that everything in a given environment has an energy known as “chi.” Proponents of feng shui believe chi not only flows through the body but also through the environment. When a home environment negatively af-fects this flow, believers in feng shui feel this can lead to health problems, financial troubles or domestic strife. This is why feng shui adher-ents do not allow clutter to accumulate in their homes, as they feel clutter can stag-nate energy flow. In addi-tion, feng shui adherents avoid homes with long, dark hallways or poorly lit stair-cases, as they feel such areas negatively affect the flow of energy in a home.

A flat roof is more prone to leakage than other roofs, so homeowners may need to routinely inspect their flat roofs for any areas of
water penetration. Another way to prevent leaks is to install gutter systems cor-rectly. Gutters should not be hung completely level,
but angled toward the roof’s
downspouts and drains. This
angle will better facilitate
water flow.

(MS) — Enjoy a jam session or watch an intense sports game with the boys without disturbing the rest of your
house. Soundproofing your man cave will ensure that the noise of male bonding, deep voices, loud music and
cheering doesn’t disturb the entire household.
A simple solution to con-trolling noise is acoustic insulation. A mineral wool product, such as ROXUL Safe ‘n’ Sound, offers sound absorbing qualities that will let you crank up your sub-woofer and cheer and jump around when your favorite team scores.
Installing mineral wool insu-lation on the interior walls of your man cave or media room will control sound, de-livering a place you can call your own sanctuary to hang out with the boys.

Working mothers have a lot on their plates. In addition to the responsibilities that come with raising a family, working moms also must fo-cus on their careers.
Many mothers find that managing such hectic bal-ancing acts leaves little time for physical fitness. But there are ways for working moms to stay physically fit even as they juggle their commit-ments to career and family.
• Work out in the early morn-ing. Working out in the early morning, when the kids are still asleep and the office has yet to open, is a great way for busy working mothers to get their daily exercise. Designate a room in your home where you can spend time each morning doing some light strength training before hitting the treadmill or elliptical machine. The United States Department of Health and Human Services recommends that adults get at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity each week, and women who get up just 45 minutes earlier each morning can meet those re-quirements and then some. An added benefit to work-ing out in the early morning is that many people who follow such regimens in-sist they have more energy throughout the rest of the day.
FITNESS TIPS FOR BUSY MOMS
• Exercise with the kids. Working mothers looking to find time for exercise can turn part of family time into a time to exercise with their children. Play in the yard with youngsters while dinner is cooking or go for nightly post-meal walks. Ex-ercising with kids is a great way for mothers to get their daily exercise while also in-stilling a love of physical ac-tivity in their children.
• Have a backup plan on hand. Working out at a gym can be motivational, as many mothers want to make sure their monthly membership fees aren’t going to waste. But there will inevitably be
days when working mothers can’t get to the gym. Prepare for such days by purchasing home workout DVDs you can play while the kids are doing their homework or after they have gone to bed.
• Look for gyms with child-care. Many gyms now offer on-site childcare to parents of young children who can’t stay home alone while their folks are at the gym. Gyms that offer on-site childcare may prove more reliable and even less expensive than hir-ing a sitter, and some gyms even offer fitness programs to youngsters, helping to en-sure kids get the daily exer-cise they need as well.
• Exercise during lunch breaks. If possible, squeeze in your daily exercise during lunch breaks. Take advan-tage of on-site exercise facili-ties if your company offers them. If not, take your lunch outside and then go for a walk around the campus or a nearby park rather than eat-ing at your desk.
Finding time to exercise is a common dilemma for working mothers. But there are some creative ways for moms to stay fit without af-fecting their commitments to work and family.

PRAYER TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN (Never known to fail). Oh, most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel, fruitful vine splendor of Heaven, Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein you are my mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to answer me in this necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my mother. Oh, Mary con-ceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Sweet mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me, I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days, after 3 days the request will be granted. This prayer must be published after the favor is granted. Favor granted. A.J.
Dear Heart of Jesus In the past I have asked for many favors, this time I ask you for this very special one. Take it Dear Jesus and place it within your broken heart where your father will see it. Then in your merciful eyes, it will become your favor, not mine. Amen. Say this prayer for 3 days, promise to publish it and your favor will be granted. Prayer answered. Thank you Lord. D.D.
