Moly U-Joint to Moly Shaft Braze Tests
Pure Copper 25% Gold 75% Copper
Wetting Test Samples confirm adequacy of Gold-Copper Alloy for a Moly-moly joint
U-Joints actually get brazed with 35/65 so a additional wetting test is planned for 12/10/07.
Fillets on outside of joint confirm that both gravity orientations of theU-joints during brazing will bond. Joint is good!
However, alloy bonded the “diaphragm”to the “Shaft” end in several spots. A additional test with a wider gap will ensure full diaphragm travel.35/65 alloy to be used for final test.

RC1 Design progress
– RF & Image Current System Concepts (see next 3 slides)
• Paired spiral style RF springs balance the loading on the RF “Sheath”.– Samples on order.
• Beam pipe id to 58mm square geometry is built into Tank ends.
• Thin copper “Curtains” bridge Tank end geometry to “End Socket”.
• End Sockets mount on ceramic ball bearings in Jaw ends.– Detail drawings of prototype bearing assembly to start this week.
• Spiral style RF spring retained in groove at each End Socket.– Samples in-house and tests are planned.
• RF Springs and Curtains stabilize End Socket during Jaw rotation.

“Sheath” concept for transverse RF seal
Paired spiral type RF Springs fit inside loop for balanced loading
Sheath may require slits at 3mmintervals along loop sides toprevent wrinkling
