TheOxfordSchoolofDrama

acceptsonlyasmallnumberofstudents.Wehavethelowestintake

ofanyaccreditedschool,whichmeansthatyoullbetreatedasan

individual,andnotgetlostinacrowd.Italsomeansthatattheendof

yourcourseyoullbeseenbypotentialemployersinagroupofaround

30students,notoneinover100asatsomeschools.

ThreeYearDiplomainActingCourse

Thisisademandingcoursebasedonthetraditionalvaluesofclassical

actingadaptedtosuittheneedsofcontemporarymedia.Itispractical,nottheoretical,andaimstoequipyouwithalltheskillsandexpertise

youneedtobecomeadynamicandcourageousactor.Thetrainingis

verymuchstudentcentredgivingtimeforindividualattention.

Youwillbeginthefirstyearwithsimpleexercisesandimprovisations,

spendingtimeexploringyourselfandthedynamicsofhuman

behaviour.Firstperformanceswillbeshortimprovisations,movingontodetailedscenesandfinallyafullscaleproductionattheendofthe

year.

Inthesecondyeartheemphasisshiftstotherehearsalprocess,looking

athowtoworkcreativelyandeffectivelyintherehearsalroomandhow

toadapttothestylisticdemandsofdifferentdramatictexts.Second

yearproductionsarepresentedtoyourfellowstudentsandtutorsand,

Thereisanincreasingamountofemploymentdemandingskillsin

microphonetechnique,notonlyinradiodramaandvoiceoversfor

radio,filmandtelevision,butinrecentyearsalsotheeverexpanding

possibilitiesontheinternetandfortrainingpurposes.

Youllbecomefamiliarwiththedemandsofthemediumthroughaseriesoftutorials,classesandworkshopswhichaimtodevelopyour

techniquetothestandardnecessaryforprofessionalwork.Recordings

aremadeofmonologues,narrativereadings,voiceoversanddramatic

texts.

TheDanceandDramaAwardswereintroducedbytheGovernmentin1999toprovidenationalscholarshipsfortheUKsmosttalenteddance
