Before studying about lap former machine lets discuss about whats lap and lapping?Lap A sheet of fiber or fabric wrapped around a core.A general term used to designate wide sheets of loosely matted cotton, formed on such textile machines as the breaker, picker, finisher picker, ribbon lapper, and sliver lapper.It is basically the output of blow room or draw frame machine and also the main thing it is input to the carding machine.

Lapping Lappingis amachiningprocess, in which two surfaces are rubbed together with anabrasivebetween them, by hand movement or by way of a machine.This can take two forms. The first type of lapping (traditionally calledgrinding), typically involves rubbing a brittle material such asglassagainst a surface such asironor glass itself (also known as the "lap" or grinding tool) with an abrasive such asaluminum oxide,jewelers rouge,optician's rouge,emery,silicon carbide,diamond, etc., in between them. This produces microscopicconchoidal fracturesas the abrasive rolls about between the two surfaces and removes material from both.The other form of lapping involves a softer material such aspitchor aceramicfor the lap, which is "charged" with the abrasive. The lap is then used to cut a harder materialthe work piece. The abrasive embeds within the softer material which holds it and permits it to score across and cut the harder material. Taken to a finer limit, this will produce a polished surface such as with a polishing cloth on an automobile, or a polishing cloth or polishing pitch upon glass or steel.Taken to the ultimate limit, with the aid of accurateinterferometryand specialized polishing machines or skilled hand polishing,lens makerscan produce surfaces that are flat to better than 30 nanometers. This is one twentieth of thewavelengthof light from the commonly used 632.8nm helium neon laser light source. Surfaces this flat can be molecularly bonded (optically contacted) by bringing them together under the right conditions. (This is not the same as the wringing effect ofJohansson blocks, although it is similar).

Lap former Machine The lap former has, furthermore, the task of forming the interfacing or lap, which is employed to feed thecombing machine. The lap is obtained by doubling a certain number of slivers (from16 to 32) previously subject to a drawing passage. The slivers are fed side by side, passing, through rollers and stop motion. The slivers enter the drafting section and then calendar ' section to produce a compact lap. Finally the lap is wound on to bobbin. In the lap former, the material under goes a light draft of around 1.5 to 2 times one a drawing aggregate of the type 2 on top of 3 cylinders.

Drawing Machines where slivers from carding is Drawn in to, so as to make the fibers parallel and are fed to a similar machine to get a better parallelization which goes to the next department. In Lap former machine, slivers are fed to form a lap of 20 inches wide condensed with a slight draft and weighing as per set length. The machine run smoothly so as not to disturb the fibers which undergo combing at the comber machines. One such Lap former is sufficient to feed 8 comber machines. The machine is equipped with sliver break stop motion. Whenever the sliver in any of the cans happens the machine stops and a red light goes up to indicate the operator that it has stopped. These Laps are wound to fixed lengths and is cut at that length and the machine ejects it to a stand and starts automatically.
