    Language

A human system ofcommunication that uses arbitrary signals, such asvoice sounds, gestures, or written symbols.

    ( Richard Nordquist)

    Socialization

Socialization is a process by which children are turned into fully competentmembers of their society.

    Linguistic determination

The study of language is called linguistic.

According to Sapir Whorf hypothesis language determines thoughts to avery great extent and in many ways. But this hypothesis is verycontroversial, there are some related ideas that are more widely accepted.

    Contact between language and thought

Contact between language and thought is its use by an older generation to

transmit its culture to a younger one however a good deal of culture is

transmitted verbally. In other words speech is an instrument of socialization

and speech is a crucial component in the process of socialization.

Language teach factsIt is obvious that language allows our socialisers to teach us facts and to

    name our concepts.

ExamplesBeethoven was the composer.Germs make us ill.

    One view

Some concepts are independent of language.

Some we learned as babies before we started to speak towards the end of

the first year of life and others were form later.

i.e we have a concept for the kinds of things we buy at a tobacconist or a

do it yourself shop e.g at mcdonalds but no name for any of these concepts.

In contrast with concept for things bought in other kinds of shop e.g

    groceries.

Similarly we can see the similarities among nails, screws, nuts and bolts

they have similar functions and they are all made of metal and we might

expect people to store them together but no name for these concepts.

So we can say concept can exist without specific linguistic evidence for

    them.

    Another view

On the other hand we can be equally sure that there are other conceptswhich we should not have if it were not for language.

There are other concepts which we learn after we have learned their namesand for which the name is our main evidence.

For instance,Clark and Clark (1977:486)quote an incident where a mothersaid to her five years old child,We have to keep the screen doorclosed, honey,so the flies wont come in. Flies bring germs into the housewith them .when the child was asked afterwards what germs were, theanswer was something the flies play with.

We learn many concepts by being told about them especially during our

formal education so we do infact learned them through language.

If a word is used often, a child has more opportunities for learning its

    meaning accurately.

    Conclusion

Concluding all, I agree with the views even the language is transmitted by

    the generation to generation.

Some concepts are independent of language and concepts can exist

without any linguistic evidence for them.

There are other concepts which we should not have if it were not for

    language.

All these views express the main idea of using language while socializing.

And dialogue or speech is an essential part in the process of socialization.

For example a 1 year old child has nothing but his body language orgestures can express the need and problem through weeping, hoping and

    smiling.

Thus the language as a vital role to express and communicate ideas and

views and without it is probably impossible to explain, like I am here to

express my views in the language while others can understand and to get

    the idea of our presentation.
