Mission critical applications are not limited to transport, traffic monitoring, oil & gas, Smart Grids, electrical substations, or wind turbines, but might also include IP video surveillance and security in cities or on campuses.

Network infrastructure in these applications must operate under the harshest conditions. Besides high levels of availability, products for mission critical network applications should also offer the highest possible security. Special protocols and features supported by Nexans industrial switches offer advanced anti-hacking protection and cyber security options. Controlled access to data is realized through multiple authentication levels, port security and encryption (including SCP, SSHv2, HTTPS, RADIUS, SNMPv3, IEEE 802.1X , TACACS+ etc.).

Switch I/O ports can connect to door sensors or access control systems and automated event-related security scenarios can be started up via switches.

Deliberate or accidental disconnection or access can disturb operations or result in full-scale system failures. This, in turn, brings costly fault tracking and repair. SecureLock lockable copper and fibre connectivity protects vital links from deliberate or accidental disconnection.

Easy maintenance for mission critical networksOur network is spread across multiple locations, over a large geographical area – how can our IT teams manage all equipment and connections and find and fix faults easily and efficiently?

Making infrastructure maintenance easy and smart with Nexans industrial switches

Critical infrastructure networks often span or connect large areas, such as smart grid subsections, transport infrastructures or urban public service networks, and need to be remote managed from central office. LANactive Industry solution allows automation of processes required in networks spanning hundreds of kilometres, reducing time needed to track and resolve issues and making it possible to use IT resources and staff in the most efficient way.

Each iGigaSwitch can provide diagnostic data regarding temperature, power level, port usage, copper cables, PoE, SFP status and much more as well as alerts can be defined for a wide range of parameters.This ensure easy, fast localization of possible faults.

Nexans memory cards offer automatic redundant storage of the complete configuration and firmware for industrial switches. Optionally, it has a unique, fixed MAC address. In case of switch replacement, the SD card needs to be removed from one switch and installed in a new one. When inserted, the card’s unique MAC address, configuration and firmware are applied to the new switch. No changes in the network policy or pre-setup works are required, as the system will see the same switch as it did before.

Nexans compact managed GigaSwitch V5 IND family is designed to provide additional flexibility in network design for many mission critical appli-cations. The switches have operating temperature ranges between -25 and +65 °C. Together with the robust housing, the optional memory card and the high MTBF value, Nexans industrial switches are highly reliable.

Full gigabit GigaSwitch V5 IND family has 4x RJ45 user ports and 2 uplink ports in different combinations: 2x SFP or 1x RJ45 and 1x SFP ports. Thanks to PoE+ functionalities different de-vices can be powered through the same network according to IEEE 802.3at.

The very compact design of GigaSwitch V5 IND allows different ways of installations: a snap-in installation (no tools needed) in standard 45mm cable ducts, frames, floor boxes or with mounting kits on walls, under the ceiling or on DIN-rails.

The preinstalled free programmable functional input contacts with alarm function allow fast and simple integration of additional simple devices, like dry contacts, directly in the field.

The compact iPowerSupply perfectly complements Nexans Industrial Ethernet product portfolio. Due to the design, the wide-range inputs and the global approvals, the iPowerSupply is well suited for use in installations around the globe. The iPowerSupplies comply with high requirements for EMC and environmental conditions which allows its operation in very harsh environments.

The iPowerSupply is not only able to supply active systems, such as switches, with power, but also other Power over Ethernet enabled devices at the same time. Moreover a parallel connection of iPowerSupplies can be used to increase the power and realise redundancy. The reliability and efficiency of the iPowerSupply is underlined by a high electrical efficiency, low stand-by losses and high MTBF values.

Nexans SFP transceivers support digital optical monitoring functions according to the standard SFF-8472 and multisource agreement. These fea-tures give the users the ability to monitor real-time parameters of the SFP module. Nexans switch management allows to define “Threshold Values” for Laser Bias Current, Output Power and Input Power for each individual SFP interface. By using these functionalities as an early warning system it is possible to increase significantly network avail-ability. The Nexans active systems with SFP slots could use the monitoring and diagnostics capabili-ty to calculate attenuation of fibre link.

Nexans SFP transceivers are compliant with SFP MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) and SFF-8472. All modules satisfy Class I Laser Safety requirements in accordance with the international IEC-825 standard.

Nexans device manager NEXMAN provides an easy, intuitive and comfortable solution for config-uration, management and supervision of Nexans switches. Both Nexans industrial and FTTO switch-es can be connected to Nexans device manager.

Thanks to the activation of optional parameters during set-up of Nexans device manager, it can be easily integrated into a central management system (e.g. SNMPc, HP-BTO/Openview…). In this case the Device List will be bypassed and the Device-Editor will be started directly.

Zero-Touch Configuration allows an easy instal-lation of all Nexans switches. After connecting a Nexans LANactive iGigaSwitch to a network segment, the switch will automatically link to its controller to receive provisioned firmware and configuration. Alternatively, a layer 3 automatic discovery via a router can be performed.

Through a master configuration high number of switches can be configured at once. The master configu ration can be saved for each depart ment, in case they require different settings.

NEXMAN Client-Controller offers a centralized way to manage a network devices and users.

Nexans memory cards are redundant encrypted storage (AES256) for industrial and FTTO switches which always stores its complete and most actual configuration and firm-ware automatically. There are different formats: SD and micro SD for industrial and IND switches respectively.

To make network maintenance processes easier, Nexans memory cards have unique MAC address fixed on it. Switch replaces its own MAC address with the one read from memory card. In case of a switch replacement the SD card needs to be removed from one switch and installed into the new one. The MAC-address, configuration and firmware will be taken on by the new switch from this SD-card. So no changes in the network policy or pre-setup works need to be made as the system will see the same switch as before.

The V.24 console port on Nexans switches allows you to configure the switch on site and/or to retrieve its status without an Ethernet network connection. Configuration via the V.24 console port provides full configuration functionality.

LANactive Industry Starter Kit is designed to demonstrate the capabilities of Nexans Industrial Ethernet switches in a professional way. It can be used during the technical evaluation, meetings and exhibitions or can be provided to the customers for further testing.
