    History

    Lakm is an Indian brand of cosmetics , owned by Unilever . Lakme started as a100% subsidiary of Tata Oil Mills (Tomco), part of the Tata Group ; it was namedafter the French opera Lakm , which itself is the French form of Lakshmi, thegoddess of wealth, also renowned for her beauty. Indian cosmet Lakme was startedin 1952, famously because the then Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, wasconcerned that Indian women were spending precious foreign exchange on beautyproducts, and personally requested JRD Tata to manufacture them in India. SimoneTata joined the company as director, and went on to become its chairman. In 1998

    Tata sold off their stakes in Lakm Lever to HLL, for Rs 200 Crore (45 million US$),and went on to create Trent and Westside . Even today, when most multinationalbeauty products are available in India, Lakme still occupies a special place in thehearts of Indian women.

    A brand that has over 5 decades talked of beauty is none other than Lakm. itoffered a range of cosmetics with nail polishes & lipsticks from the early 80sLakm also understands the importance of maintaining and accentuating awomens natural beauty For this it has introduced a range of skincare products from1987. These ranges have been constantly innovated to bring specialized beautycare With a unique blend of understanding of women of all ages, today, Lakm isall setting trends and dominating the fashion arena
