AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Actors should be prepared to sing 32 bars of a song (preferably

from a musical). Accompanist will be available. Also be prepared to do a short dance combination. Please bring 1 copy each of your headshot and resume’ if you have them.

CASTING: All singing and non-singing roles are available. Looking for men

and women 18 and older who can move well. Also, 1 young girl over 12 who can sing and move well.

SYNOPSIS:Based on the beloved, timeless film, this heartwarming musical

adaptation features 17 Irving Berlin songs and a book by David Ives and Paul Blake. Veterans Bob Wallace and Phil Davis have a successful song and dance act after WWll. With romance in mind, the two follow a duo of beautiful singing sisters en route to their Christmas show at a Vermont lodge, which just happens to be owned by Bob and Phil’s former army commander. The dazzling score features well known standards including Blue Skies, I Love A Piano, How Deep Is The Ocean, Count Your Blessings and the perennial favorite, White Christmas. This musical is so uplifting, it is worthy of year-round productions.

Rehearsals will begin in September and continue thru tech and dress, the first week in November.

The quality of the auditions will determine the best casting for the show. This will be assessed after all auditions are completed.

Women’s Club Celebrates Two Lakeway July 4 Parade SuccessesThe Women’s Club of Greater Lakeway had two success

stories at the Annual Lakeway July 4th Parade. It took the top Grand Prize award for their float entitled “Women Preserving Freedom“. Charlene Cooley, Chairman of the July 4th float for the Club, commented: “I was grateful and proud for the award and my thoughts immediately went to the team that made it happen - Linda Buikema, Joan Peterson, Kitty Lichty, Karen Morter, Peg Crownover and Sophia Crownover . We wanted the float to reflect that women have helped shape and preserve our freedom – as activists, judges, factory workers during the war and military active duty personnel. To depict the various ways women have contributed, we decided to feature actual retired Army, Navy, Marines women and to add portrayals of Sandra Day O’Conner, Betsy Ross, Rosie the Riveter, and Susan B. Anthony.” The team of Women’s Club members had help with the heavy construction from Jack Crownover, J.W. Rouse and Frank Cooley to achieve the winning float design.

Another Special Interest Group of the Women’s Club, Dottie’s Follies, won second place in the Civic category. Dottie’s Follies is a performing group that entertain at special events.

Women’s Club of Greater Lakeway mission is to promote social, cultural and intellectual growth to the 520 members who enjoy monthly general meetings with interesting speakers from September to May and a large variety of social events and interest groups. The music of Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and Chopin will fill the air in pianist Kiyoshi Tamagawa’s concert at 4 p.m. Aug. 23 in the ballroom of the Lakeway Activity Center, 105 Cross Creek.

The City of Lakeway’s Arts Committee will present the one-hour concert that is free and open to the public. Tamagawa also will perform music from Japanese composer Jun Miyake.

Tamagawa, professor of music at Southwestern University in Georgetown, has featured as a soloist and collaborative pianist throughout North America, England and Asia.

He has performed at Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Hall and Bargemusic in New York City, Wigmore Hall in London and in a solo recital on the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts in Chicago.

His recent performances include an appearance with New York Philharmonic members Evangeline Benedetti, cellist and Stanley Drucker, clarinetist, on the Philharmonic Ensembles series in New York, a Tokyo recital with violinist Ayako Yonetani and two performances of Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto with the Temple (TX) Symphony.

Tamagawa’s degrees include a bachelor of music at Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, master of music at Yale University, and doctor of musical arts at The University of Texas at Austin. He is the recipient of the 2013 Collegiate Teacher of the Year award from the Texas Music Teachers’ Association.

Saturday, August 8: Head to Johnson City and tour the new Hill Country Science Museum built at the old Crofts Mill: www.sciencemill.org .The museum opened earlier this year after a massive redoing of the hallmark building. It is located across a small street from the LBJ Boyhood Home and we are welcome to tour that as well. Lunch following tour at the Lady Bird Lane Cafe owned by Kay Pratt of the famed Silver Spur. “Preserving our Freedom” , the 2015 July 4th Lakeway Parade theme, was supported well by the parade floats and participants. The presence of our military representatives serve as our reminder of the debt we owe to them for our freedom and its preservation.

Another group, All Things Wild Rehabilitation, participated with one of the winning floats in the Civic category. Dedicated licensed members of this non-profit organization actively assist in preserving life and freedom by rehabilitating injured and orphaned wildlife. One of the many enjoyments of living in Lakeway is the surrounding beauty of nature and its inhabitants. Preservation of freedom of this group enhances our own lives.

With so much going on in the economic world, I want to take a break and revisit some vital principles for successful investing. Potentially rising interest rates, expensive U.S. stocks, Greece’s debt situation, and an upcoming election season are tempting many investors to sell risky assets and flee to safety.

If you can relate, then consider this: Most of what matters in investing involves bedrock principles….not current events. Consider how you can revisit the principles below in your own portfolio.

Diversification is how you limit the risk of losses in an uncertain world.

Diversification can be frustrating because it requires owning some unpopular assets at times, but we all know the future will play in ways we can’t imagine. Owning a little bit of many things is a bet on humility.

You are your own worst enemy.The biggest risk facing most investors is not the next market correction

or interest rate movement…it is their own emotions and biases. There aren’t many iron rules of investing, but one of them is that no

amount of brain power can compensate for behavioral errors. Figure out what mistakes you are prone to make and implement strategies to limit this risk.

There is a price to pay.Historically, the stock market has offered incredible long-term

returns. With that said, the cost of those returns is a never ending flood of unpredictable outcomes, volatility and unexpected downturns. If you can stick with your investment through these times, the cost is only mental…though very real. Not everyone is willing to pay this cost leaving opportunity for those who are.

It is tempting to try to figure out what the market will do in the short

term, but the reason the long term returns are so good is due to the fact that we can’t predict what stocks will do tomorrow.

When in doubt, choose the investment with the lowest fee.As a group, investors’ profits always will equal the overall market’s

returns minus all fees and expenses. Below-average fees, therefore, offer one of your best shots at earning above-average results.

A talented fund manager can be worth a higher fee, mind you. But enduring outperformance is one of the most elusive investing skills. There are no promises in investing. The best you can do is put the odds in your favor. And the evidence is overwhelming: The lower the costs, the more the odds tip in your favor.

Time is the most powerful force in investing.If you do the math on 84 year old Warren Buffet’s fortune you will

find that $70 billion of his $73 billion was accumulated after his 60th birthday. Mr. Buffett is, of course, a phenomenal investor whose talents few will replicate. But the real key to his wealth is that he has been a phenomenal investor for two-thirds of a century.

Wealth grows exponentially—a little at first, then slightly more, and then in a hurry for those who stick around the longest. That lesson—that time, patience and endurance pay off—is something us mortals can learn from, particularly younger workers just starting to save for retirement.

We are all extremely thankful for the rains we have enjoyed this year. Our lakes actually have substantial water in them for the first time recent memory. Vegetation in the area has the green, healthy color that has been absent so many years. Lake area businesses are experiencing big crowds that have been missing for so long.

While all of this is wonderful news, the heat of summer is now upon us. As of this writing, there is no rain in the forecast for the foreseeable future. The combined storage of both lakes is 1.5M Acre Feet (AF), or 77% of capacity. Lake Travis is at 671’, about 4’ above average for this time of year. Lake Buchanan is at 1,005’, about 7’ less than prior year’s average. These numbers are encouraging, but we need to remember that the history of our area shows we go through frequent and elongated periods of dry weather historically. With that in mind, we need to continue to be good stewards of the water we have at all times.

Lakeway MUD Board of Directors voted to move to Stage 1 Restrictions effective immediately during the Regular Board meeting Wednesday, June 10. Stage 1 restrictions between May 1 and September 30 call for the same watering schedules as Stage 2, which is twice per week according to the following guidelines:

For Odd Street addresses, Wednesday and Saturday are irrigation days.

For Even Street addresses, Thursday and Sunday are irrigation days.

Commercial customers may irrigate on Tuesdays and Fridays.Just as in Stage 2, no watering is allowed between 10AM and

7PM.The Board stresses that even though our conditions have

improved greatly, we are still only at 77% of our water storage capacity between Lake Travis and Lake Buchanan, and we are facing the beginning of another hot Texas summer. During the hot summer months, we can lose up to 2,000 Acre Feet per day from our combined storage. The strong Southerly winds we are seeing combined with 90+ degree heat increase evaporation significantly. The increased usage also contributes to the loss of AF storage.

The Board encourages all residents and businesses to continue the good water conservation habits we have learned over the past few trying years. The citizens of Lakeway have been extremely cooperative during the past drought conditions we have had to live through, and we ask for that same conservation mentality as we get through the summer months.

Lakeway MUD notifies our customers when usage is considerably above normal urging them to check for leaks and/or equipment malfunctions. It is possible for the programmed instructions for sprinkler systems, pools, and water softeners to become distorted and cause unwanted water usage. We also receive tips from citizens, city employees, and others when running water or accumulations of water are observed, and we react immediately to the issue as solve it as quickly as possible. We also recycle all of our wastewater; after being treated, it is used to irrigate our golf courses and public medians which prevents using fresh water for these purposes.

Everyone can help by doing their part; here are a few tips we can use:

Turn off all faucets tightly so they don’t drip; a dripping or leaking faucet can waste up to 200 gallons of water per month!

Check all toilets frequently; a leaking toilet can waste up to 200 gallons per day!

Wait until the dishwasher and clothes washers are full to run them; both appliances use a lot of water.

Limit use of garbage disposals; a lot of water goes down the drain.Encourage restaurants you visit to serve water only by request;

many glasses of full water are left on the tables.Reduce your time in the shower by a minute or two; it’s amazing

how much water Lakeway would save if we all practiced this! We also have low flow shower heads available, so come by and get one (they are free).

Roles: Stimulate new advertising accounts in our community newsletters. Maintain current accounts assigned to you by Sales Manager. Service your accounts by assisting them from ad design to final proof approval.

Skills: Excellent communication through email and phone, with high level presentation and relationship-building skills. Strong prospecting and business development skills are a must. Previous sales experience preferred but not required.
