About Our School BuildingLake Stevens Middle School was built in 1961

and received addi ons in 1965 and 1969. In 1996 an $8.5 million dollar comprehensive cam-pus-wide moderniza on project was complet-ed. Included in this remodel was the installa on of local and wide area networks. The prac cal capacity for our building is 573 students. We now have 583 students in grades six and sev-

en. There are 26 classrooms, a mul -purpose room, library, two computer labs, a music room and two portable classrooms. Our total building size is 85,444 square feet. We have an outside basketball area, grass athle c fi elds and track, and a large gymnasium that is used year round by the students and community.

In the spring of 2011 Students in grades six and seven par cipated in the state mandated MSP (Measurement of Student Progress test). This is the new state standards based assessment in math, reading and wri ng. Previous to last spring students took the state’s WASL test. In both assessments students must demonstrate mastery in order to meet standards in each sub-

ject area. The MSP is a mul ple choice, fi ll-in and short answer test with the excep on of the wri ng por on, which is an essay response.

You may refer to the district’s website at www.lkstevens.wednet.edu and click on Our District, Reports, for a complete look at district scores. Classroom assessments are conducted by teachers in all subject areas on an ongoing ba-

sis to ensure student progress and to evaluate strengths and growth opportuni es.
