Objective
• Learn to operate the computer and the presentation equipment
• Become familiar with basic manipulations of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Use your new knowledge to create reports, charts, and presentations throughout the semester
Microsoft Office2000
• We use three applications from the Office2000 family:– Microsoft Word - general word processing, lab
reports, progress reports– Microsoft Excel - to create spreadsheets, charts
graphs, calculations– Microsoft PowerPoint - to create presentations,
display results in a creative way
Procedure
• Microsoft Word– Read the instructions on page 14 to
create 2 word documents similar to page 16 & 17
– Use the Microsoft Word reference sheet starting on page 18 to guide you
– Ask your partner or instructor for help if you have trouble with something

• Microsoft Excel– Read the instructions on page 19 to
create an excel table– Follow the instructions on page 20 to
create a graph through Excel– Use the sample on page 21 as a guide

format on page 22– Read the instructions on page 23 to
create a PowerPoint presentation for recitation

• Complete the Word and Excel exercises
• Printout the Word documents, Excel tables, and Excel graphs
• Include a title page (specifications can be found on page 5
Recitation Topics
• Finish preparing the PowerPoint presentation• For this presentation, also include information about
yourself:– Why did you choose the engineering/science field?
– What is your professional expectation in 10 years?
• Hand in a printout of your PowerPoint presentation to your teaching assistant
Closing
• Be sure each team member has a turn using the software
• The Microsoft office assistant (found under the help toolbar) can give helpful pointers on how to use the software
• Remember to submit all work electronically
