You may of noticed that the Ranch has been invaded by
ducks this week. No matter where you turn, you are bound to see
a big yellow rubber duck. Members who are supporting the 2nd
Annual Duck Race….Thank YOU!
The Cloud 9 Ranch Conservation Committee is hosting
the Duck Race as a fundraising event for the committee. The
Conservation Committee is strongly dedicated to raising money
for projects that will benefit the entire membership. Regardless if
you are a fishermen or a hunter, the Conservation Committee has
made the commitment to invest their fundraising dollars to help-
ing the Ranch in ways we can all be proud of.
The project list for 2012 has consisted of two major im-
provements for the Ranch. The first project was assisting the
Ranch in funding for the new 4 acre pond that has been con-
structed behind compounds 3 & 4. The Conservation Committee
donated $2,000 for this project. If the weather forecast is correct
for this week, members may actually see the pond filled during
the Labor Day Weekend. Don’t let a little rain dampen your fun,
Ducks love the rain! In the future, you can expect to have catfish,
bass and other pond fish stocked in the new lake. If you are not
into fishing…..don’t worry, the new lake will also provide a
beautiful picnic area and amazing scenery that all outdoorsmen
will enjoy.
The second project the Conservation Committee took on
in 2012 is dedicated first and foremost to Ranch revenue. Seeing
the need to use the resources the Ranch has been blessed with, the
Conservation Committee has spent a large portion of their time
and money in improving the quality of the hayfields on the prop-
erty. Not only will this project increase the revenues through hay
sales, but will also provide a great food source for the deer.
Which in return increases the amount of hunters and revenue in
the fall months.
Thank you to all of the members who have worked hard
and supported the Conservation Committee events throughout the
last two years. Your support has not gone unnoticed and is truly
appreciated. As long as we have your support the Conservation
Committee promises to continue to focus on projects that will
benefit the entire membership.

Wi-Fi internet access is available in all six campgrounds and the main complex, but not at every campsite in every
campground. The closer to the access point you are the stronger your signal will be. The access points are in
the following locations:
Make sure your wireless switch or setting on your device is on and look for Cloud9Net when it scans for a way to
connect.
You do not have to enter a password and most devices remember the network name after you connect so it will
automatically connect the next time you are in range. You may have to check your connection again when you
move from area to area because the signal is lost in between sites.
The signal you get can be reduced when it has to go through walls (especially metal), trees(because of the leaf
moisture), while riding your ATV or during rain. If good signal is important to you during your stay at the Ranch,
please pick your site accordingly.
If you have problems or suggestions call the office during regular hours or email me at itcoordina-
Thank you, Robert Butterfield

Each year Judy Sweetin and the group of friends & helpers she has, work very hard to bring fun to the Employee Ap-preciation Dinner that is held at the end of the season. This year is no different, with all of Judy’s hard work, a lit-tle more help is needed. Judy is asking that willing mem-bers pitch in to help provide the needed cakes for the two cake walks that will be held during the Labor Day weekend. This year in addition to the 2 cake walks, members will also be able to purchase cakes for $10 each if they do not want to participate in the cake walk. . “Adapt, Modify, Overcome,” is what David Parvin says
has been a motto he lives by. “People can change the
way they think. You can overcome anything just by
changing the way you think. Take a negative and get
something positive out of it.” There’s no place on earth
that motto better fits than at his job. “It’s not a struggle,
just a fact and away we go.” Dave is lead mechanic and
in charge of the garage “shop,” and takes a lot of pride in
the work he has accomplished.
Dave’s journey with Cloud 9 began a little over two
years ago. He had a mobile mechanic business that kept
him away from home and family. Coming home from a
job in Willow Springs one evening, Dave prayed asking God to set him down some place where
he could use his talents and just enjoy living again. A Cloud 9 help wanted ad was in the paper
that day. That night when Dave sat down and read it, he said, “I knew that job was mine,” but it
didn’t come easy. Dave admits his “weathered look” was not a plus, but he knew the job was
his and he had to convince Coy of that. It took him four trips talking with Coy Jackson before
he hired Dave. His knowledge of ranch equipment and many talents won him over. When
asked about his childhood, Dave shared a little Born in Denver, CO in Feburary of 1954, he
was raised in a foster home with eleven others in the house. He credits his home life for his ea-
gerness to learn and become educated. Dave in a serious tone remarked, “I would get de-
pressed when I had to leave school in the afternoons.” His ability to “modify, adapt and over-
come” started at a young age and his escape was school where he loved science and metal craft-
ing, but most of all he learned the value of an education.
Dave’s first job at age 13 was at a Schwinn Bicycle factory in Denver, and he’s never stopped
working since. At age 17, he entered the Army as one of the last military draftees, “But I tested
out high and didn’t have to go in as a grunt like most.” Assigned as an aviation mechanic, he
spent 8 years in the Army building his love for airplanes, that still has a passion for today. Af-
ter military, Dave landed in Florida where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in automo-
tive engineering from Spartan School of Aeronautics. He lived in Phoenix, Houston, and sev-
eral other places in those years. He came to Thayer, MO to visit brothers and grandparents he
had not seen for many years; met the love of his life, Janice. Janice lived in West Plains and
they have been married now for 28 years. Dave and Janice have four children, three grandchil-
dren, and a Siberian Husky. Dave says of his family, “We are a multi-talented bunch – son is a
computer geek, oldest daughter is an RN, Janice was an aerospace machinist, made nozzles for
patriot missiles during Gulf War at Southwest Mobile Systems in West Plains.”
Beyond family, Dave’s pride and joy is his Stitts Skycoupe, a vintage aircraft. Having a pilot’s
license since 1971, when asked where his favorite place to fly is, he remarked, “Anywhere I can
fly low and slow.”
Dave is not a member of Cloud 9 Ranch. When asked what he likes most about the Ranch, he
revealed, “It’s the terrain, love the varied nooks, crannies, hollows, love seeing the horses right
out back.” Dave has read everything he can find on the history of Cloud 9 and has talked to
many people. Cloud 9 now plays a very important part in Dave’s life. He knows he is where
he is supposed to be. “It’s not about the money,” Dave says, “because I made three times as
much working for myself. I love it here.” This interviewer left this subject wanting to hear
more of Dave’s love for Cloud 9, but it’s a work day for Dave and he must be about his busi-
ness of adapting, modifying and overcoming.
Dave was very honest when asked what he wanted to tell the Cloud 9 membership. “We may
be hillbillies, but we are not hicks.” And he didn’t laugh when he said it. “The Ranch opened
up my life to a lot of ways to apply my trade and I hope that I’m helping the Ranch as much as
it has helped me.” Dave’s goal, in his own words, “Make this Ranch work and stop all the
leaks….and I mean all of them Ma’am.” Dave takes pride in his workplace even though it’s an
old garage. It was clean and he bragged on the men that he works with. You could see from
the other guy’s working that they enjoy being around Dave He said his workers at the shop are
the best and there are no more days when he comes to work and tools are “missing.” At the end
of the interview, Dave pulled from his desk a picture of Janice and him standing in front of a
garage he owned back in the 80’s. The name of that garage struck me as so genuine for this
man with a weathered look and a patriotic do-rag on his head. It read, “Good Karma Garage.”
Yes, with David Parvin as our lead mechanic, our garage at Cloud 9 now has “Good Karma.”

On September 8th during Employee Appreciation Day, we will be
sponsoring an EMPLOYEE SHOPPING SPREE for Ranch em-
ployees and their families. Keeping in mind that many of our
employees will be laid off in September, we are going to try and
help bridge that financial gap for them with the help and generos-
ity of the membership.
GROCERY SHOPPING SPREE: (This event will take
the place of the Christmas in September done in previous
years.) On Employee Appreciation Day, there will be a
“grocery store” set up for the employees. Names of em-
ployees will be drawn for a chance to “shop.” They will
be able to win an amount of seconds to gather what they
want in a shopping bag. What we are asking is that
members donate non-perishable grocery items or house-
hold supplies to the EMPLOYEE STORE. DROP OFF
PLACE FOR THESE ITEMS IS THE NEW RANGER’S
STATION BUILDING by the gatehouse. When you are
arriving or leaving, drop your items off any time of the
day or night. SUGGESTION: Think of this event when
you are leaving the Ranch and have those items to carry
back home or you usually give to another camper. If
you want to donate money for us to do your shopping for
the items, drop off your cash donations at the Ranch Of-
fice Window or Gatehouse in an envelope marked
EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION SHOPPING SPREE or
make checks payable to Cloud 9 Ranch with memo: Shop-
ping Spree. Our goal is to have at least $600 worth of
groceries to spread around to as many employees as it
lasts. Your donation can help make it happen!!!

The Rest of the Story
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MR. PRESIDENT
Last Saturday our Board President turned 50 years
old. Looking back over the years of Cloud 9 Presi-
dents, he’s probably the youngest of the bunch. At
his birthday party at the Big Top, he was sent “Over
the Hill” in a big way. Becky and their children wanted a special day for Kevin, and they got
it. Over 100 guests came to enjoy BBQ, and they were entertained by Ranch employees and
members. Laughter was all-around; a happy atmosphere for everyone. It was a perfect party
for Kevin, who thrives on watching everyone enjoy “his” Ranch. Kevin Willis is in his third
year as Director of Cloud 9, and his second year as Board Presi-
dent. But in his wildest dreams he never
thought he would be the President of a large
corporation. Kevin admits he still can’t figure
out why that happened, but it did and he’s do-
ing the best he can for the interest of Cloud 9
employees and owners. This is a good time to
understand a little more about who Kevin
Willis really is. Born August 18, 1962, in Marshfield, MO, in the Wal-
Mart parking lot – well, not exactly. Prior to the parking lot, a small
medical clinic was located there.

It is Your responsibility to know!
Cloud 9 Ranch is a very beautiful place to ride ATV’s, camp, and
fish. With nearly 6500 acres, there is something for everyone to
do at Cloud 9 Ranch. Ranch members are encouraged to ride the
trails & explore the natural beauty that our Ranch encompasses.
With that task also comes the responsibility of the member to
know where you are on the property. The RRC has spent a great
amount if time & effort in producing C9R Trail maps. The maps
are a tool that every member should have readily available as they
explore the Ranch property. For your convenience the maps are
for sale in the Trading Post. As you enjoy your time at Cloud 9
Ranch, be aware that private landowners share fence lines with
the Ranch. Both Ranch Management and these Private Owners
want you, as members, to be aware that cutting fences and the
destruction of private property is against the law. Ranch Mem-
bers who trespass onto privately owned land can be prosecuted.
Surrounding property owners have reported to Ranch Officials
that fire rings have been built, trash (beer cans) have been left and
fences have been cut by Cloud 9 Members. One landowner has
also reported that since the spring of this year, nearly 2 miles of
ATV trails have been blazed on their privately held property. As
members, know where you are on the Ranch property, look for
purple marking paint to identify property lines and avoid all areas
that are marked with “NO TRESSPASSING” signs. The Ranch
has been blessed with neighbors that respect our private area, let’s
return the favor by respecting the rights of the surrounding prop-
erty owners as well.

A Star at Cloud 9 Ranch!
The doctor who delivered Kevin said he delivered two
bulls in one day – his own bull calf that morning &
Kevin that night. Kevin grew up a Missouri country
boy, being the middle child of a steel worker. Kevin’s
first job was Press Operator at the plant his Dad
worked, Marshfield Steel (now Hutchens Industries);
over the years receiving promotions, he’s now a Su-
pervisor. Kevin claims 1983 was his best year; he
found a job and married his best friend & love of his
life, Becky. It was a great year; working at the same
plant for almost 30 years & having the same wife for
as many years is proof. He is a devoted man to his
job, husband to Becky, Daddy to two girls & Papaw
Buck to two grandchildren, as well as his C9R Board
responsibilities. How did Kevin find Cloud 9 Ranch?
The way many did; invited by friends. Becky admits
she didn’t feel the love being in a 17 ft. rental, so they
packed up & left at 6:00 a.m. the next morning. But
the lure of Cloud 9 didn’t vanish. They came back,
took a tour with Salesman Don Moreland who offered
a $200 down, monthly payment plan. In 2004, they
signed on the dotted line. Soon they were offered a
one-time payment of $1,000, & took it. That first year
the Willis family (bringing their own camper) enjoyed
family camping and rode the trails. Kevin and Becky
soon recognized the need for volunteers and began
helping wherever there was a need. Every trip to
Cloud 9 meant some volunteer time was on their
schedule. Kevin became an officer of the RRC, but
by 2009 he was encouraged to campaign for a Direc-
tor position. He resigned as RRC Co-Chairman and
was elected to the
Board of Directors in
June 2010. As Vice-
President under Don
Scott, when Don re-
signed, Kevin filled the
top position. The 2012-
2013 Directors re-
elected Kevin as Presi-
dent. Kevin and Becky Willis are what Cloud 9 is all
about. Their commitment to the employees and com-
mittees is unsurpassed. Kevin is a quiet man, but his
actions speak volumes about dedication and interest in
how Cloud 9 is perceived from every aspect. Becky
will be the first to tell you the love people showed
Kevin at his party was deeply appreciated and at times
overwhelming to him. Kevin says he has two fami-
lies; one at home and one at his “little piece of
heaven” Cloud 9 Ranch. If you ever hear Kevin pray,
he usually ends with “And thank you, Sir, for listen-
ing.” Kevin Willis is a humble country boy with a
heart of gold, the most genuine family man you’ll ever
meet, and Cloud 9 is fortunate to have him.

At a pageant held recently in Branson at the Stone Castle, Bailey took home the Supreme Most Beautiful Crown and the Prettiest Eyes Award. Julie Booth would like to thank Cloud 9 members for their support and donations to de-fray the cost of the entry fees. Beautiful Me Productions pageants concentrate on natural beauty and help young girls develop poise and confi-dence. The false “glitz” of other pro-ductions is not rewarded in these pag-eants. Bailey is new on the beauty queen circuit, only been in three pag-eants. But her natural beauty and con-tagious smile has brought home THREE CROWNS. These achievements have gained her a spot in the State Beautiful Me pageant event in October. This level of competition offers indi-viduals and businesses the opportunity for advertising by sponsoring contest-ants. If you are interested in sponsor-ing this WINNER and would like more information on Beautiful Me Produc-tions, contact Julie Booth at Cloud 9 Ranch.

Cloud 9 Ranch Caving Tour~Sunday, September 2nd
Members of Cloud 9 Ranch often ask about the caves at the Ranch. At last count, there are 29 caves on the Cloud
9 Ranch property. Often members are intrigued by the caves but few actually take the time to seek the caves and
explore them. For those of you who would like to explore the Ranch caves but have reservations about caving
crawling for whatever reason, here is your opportunity to join other Cloud 9 Members to explore some hidden
wonders at the Ranch.
The Labor Day Weekend Caving
Group will have the chance to visit
some rarely visited locations on the
Ranch. There are 4 points of inter-
ests which are included in this trip.
The first stop will be at a 170 foot
“shelter”. Trust me when I say,
this place is basically untouched by
the membership. There is not even
a foot path to the loca-
tion….Luckily, it is only a few
yards from the main road! The
second stop on the tour will be at
“Ship” shelter, followed by visits
to both Dani and Frank Caves.
Tour Times Available:
9AM-Jerry Pusch
9:30AM- Ed Horton
10AM-Stephane Harrison

work best. Flip-Flops, sandals and other loose fitting

Knee pads are not a requirement but will make your
crawling journey more comfortable.
Helmets are recommended. Bicycle helmets work well
Flash lights will be needed in the cave.
Water bottles are recommended. Water is the only
drink you may bring into the cave.
Bringing a camera!
Small fanny packs or backpacks are suggested to allow
